Not a good day for the BRD contingent.

At least the Pack plays the Cowboys next weekend. Whoever loses will feel like a win.

There are many possibilities in the NFC. I think:
The Saints can still take the NFC South if they win and the Buccs lose
The Saints can also still get a WC slot if they win and the Packers and Seahawks lose.
The Seahawks can get a WC slot if they win and the Packers lose.

If the Packers win they're in. GO BEARS!
The Vikings get a WC slot if they win and the Saints, Packers and Seahawks all lose
Idk what route the Buccs might have for a WC slot if they lose, if any.

There are also many possibilities in the AFC. I think:
The Jaguars win the AFC South if they win. The Texans would get a WC slot.
The Bills can still take the AFC East if they beat Miami. The 'Fins would get a WC slot.
The Steelers get in if the Jaguars lose. Fingers crossed. Yippie!

GO:

1:00 PM

CBS here
@Saints (8-8, -3.0) > not quite eliminated Falcons (7-9). 48-17, wow!

FOX here
@Panthers (2-14) > Buccaneers (8-8, -4.0). SPOILER! 0-9, figures :roll:

Vikings (7-9) > @Lions (11-5, -4.0)
On behalf of GoCubsGo a very long shot insurance policy against the Packers getting in. 20-30, Vikings are out.

@Titans (5-11) > Jaguars (9-7, -4.0). SPOILER! Go Steelers.
28-20, sweet, the Jags are done for the year.

Also:
Browns 14, @eliminated Bengals 31. Doesn't matter, but still . . .

4:25 PM

CBS here
Eliminated Bears (7-9) > @Packers (8-8, -3.0). GO Seahawks (I hope), or Saints or even unlikely Vikings.
Announcers: Love's start is looking eerily like (Kaaron's) ... Packers would be the youngest team to ever make the Playoffs.
Opps, not good news for future Bears whatever happens in today's game.

9-17 :ateeth:

FOX here
@Commanders (4-12) > Cowboys (11-5, -13.0). Get the Eagles a home game!
10-38, not commanding anything

Eagles (11-5, -4.5) > @Giants (5-11). Go Raptors! 10-27
Birds lost 4 of last 5, tied the other one, and lost 7 of last 9, going 1-1 vs the lowly NYG, for what has to be the worst finish for a Playoff team ever. They visit the Buccs.

Seahawks (8-8, -3.0) > @Cardinals (4-12). Go Raptors!
TD and daring Two-Point Conversion with 1:54 left to win 21-20, not that it matters.

@49ers (12-4, -4.0) > Rams (9-7), though I don't think there are any Playoff implications. Deja vu  - Rams TD and daring Two-Point Conversion with 4:56 left to win 20-21. It does matter in giving the Rams the #6 seed over the #7 Packers. Rams to Lions, go Lions. Packers to Cowboys, go Packers.

8:20 PM NBC
@Bills (10-6, -3.0) > vs Dolphins (11-5)
The Dolphins are in, regardless. This is for boxing the Jags out. Now that the Jags lost, the Bills are in and since the score is tied I don't care who wins between these teams I like. Go football.
3-6 today :puke-left:

Jimmy Kimmel Calls Upon Aaron Rodgers to Apologize for Jeffrey Epstein Claim: ‘He Probably Won’t Do That’
"If he does, you know what I'll do? I'll accept his apology and move on," the TV host said during his latest opening monologue on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!'

Nailed it. Wingnuts detest accountability.
Aaron Rodgers Doesn't Apologize to Jimmy Kimmel, Says His Claims About Jeffrey Epstein Were Misunderstood
Last week, the New York Jets quarterback falsely suggested Kimmel might be connected to Jeffrey Epstein

Aaron Rodgers just keeps talking.

The New York Jets quarterback, 40, did not apologize to Jimmy Kimmel during an anticipated appearance on The Pat McAfee Show Tuesday, one week after he suggested the late night host might be connected to Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier who died by suicide while awaiting trial on federal conspiracy and sex trafficking charges.
Coward.
Instead, Rodgers went on a five-minute rant about COVID-19 vaccines and claimed Kimmel, 56, actually misunderstood his comments about him last week.

Rodgers called it "incorrect” to insinuate he was accusing Kimmel of being a pedophile with what he said last week.
COVIDiot and liar.
... Kimmel's name did not appear on the court documents uncovered last week.
Opps.
... Rodgers also twice criticized ESPN senior vice president of digital and studio production Mike Foss, who had apologized on behalf of the network in a statement, saying Rodgers made a “dumb and factually inaccurate joke.”

“Mike, you’re not helping,” Rodgers said into the camera Tuesday....
Grow a pair, it's YOUR dumb and factually inaccurate "joke" that isn't helping, Kaaron.

Kaaron and Sen Tommy Potatotown prove that there's no association between football success and intelligence in other realms.

Fourteen years, 137-69-1 overall, 11 winning seasons 10 playoff wins, 5 NFC West titles, two Super Bowl appearances, one win, one big opps. Maybe another opps was losing a couple this year that surely could have been won. Been a good ride for Pete, though - I hope the next guy is decent.

Pete Carroll out as Seahawks coach, will serve as team adviser

What does "adviser" mean and wouldn't any HC find that annoying and disrespectful?
... The role change comes after Carroll said in his postgame news conference Sunday, and reiterated Monday in a radio interview, that he intended to return as coach for the 2024 season.
Ouch.
... The Seahawks ended their season Sunday with a win over the Arizona Cardinals but missed out on a wild-card berth with a 9-8 record. They got off to a 5-2 start that briefly had them in first place in the NFC West, but a second-half skid doomed their playoff hopes.

That second-half stretch included the Seahawks' only four-game losing streak of the Carroll era. Among those losses was a 31-13 blowout on Thanksgiving night at the hands of the division rival San Francisco 49ers, who have beaten the Seahawks five straight times (including last season's wild-card round) by a combined score of 148-72. The Seahawks also lost 37-3 to the Baltimore Ravens in November, their second-worst margin of defeat under Carroll.
That's not very acceptable. I can understand the change.
Hired by the Seahawks in 2010, Carroll had the fourth-longest tenure with his current team of any head coach, behind Bill Belichick, Mike Tomlin and John Harbaugh.
I did not know that about the good Harbaugh brother.
At 72, Carroll had been the NFL's oldest head coach for several years but had given zero indications that he was getting close to retirement.
Time to play with the grandkids, or even great grandkids. Could be a good thing. Aside:
Will the nepo kids have to or want to move on? Back to the article:
The five-year extension he signed in 2020 put him under contract with the Seahawks through the 2025 season.
"Auburn buyout", or most expensive "adviser" ever?
... Along with Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer, Carroll is one of only three coaches to win both a college national championship and a Super Bowl.
:-|| Carroll is also the only one of the 3 to not be a despised Cowboy coach. Just for O Really ;) :
... The Seahawks hammered Peyton Manning and the Broncos 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII. Their hopes of repeating as world champions the next year against the Patriots were dashed when Malcolm Butler intercepted Russell Wilson's pass at the goal line in the closing seconds....

Bears to keep head coach Matt Eberflus, fire OC Luke Getsy

... The Bears announced Wednesday afternoon that Getsy and four other offensive assistants -- quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko, wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert, running backs coach Omar Young and assistant tight ends coach Tim Zetts -- were fired.
Interesting, what do you think?
... The Bears face a monumental decision at quarterback this offseason and whether they will stick with Justin Fields entering his fourth season or use the No. 1 draft pick on a rookie quarterback....

Fields was tied for 21st with 6.9 yards per attempt, 29th in passing success rate (38.4%), 18th in adjusted completion rate (74.3%) and totaled 20 touchdowns (16 passing, 4 rushing).
Are the offensive coaching changes a signal about what they'll do with Justin?

Nevada high court to hear NFL's appeal on Jon Gruden lawsuit

... The NFL is asking the court to reverse a lower court's decision to allow Gruden's lawsuit for negligence and intentional interference with contractual relations to proceed in the courts. The NFL instead wants Gruden's complaint to be dealt with in arbitration, overseen by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who is named in the lawsuit....

Gruden is accusing the NFL of leaking emails he wrote to then-Washington Commanders president Bruce Allen from 2011-18 that were rife with racist and homophobic remarks and highly critical of Goodell. The leaked emails stoked public outrage against Gruden, eventually leading to his resignation as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders -- an outcome he said the league manipulated.

Gruden in the suit accused the league of a "malicious and orchestrated campaign" to force his resignation.

The emails surfaced as part of the NFL's investigation into workplace culture in Washington under its previous owner, Daniel Snyder. The leaked emails, found amid 650,000 documents, became the only part of the league's probe that went public, and Gruden is suing for damages and to find out the source of the leaks.

Everything Trump Touches Dies

Gruden resigned with more than six seasons remaining on a 10-year, $100 million contract he signed with the Raiders....
The NFL may or may not be technically liable, I don't care, but racists and homophobes deserve all bad things that happen to them, even if their bigotry is expressed privately.

Dunno, I'm mixed on Justin (still), with a terrible offensive coordinator and an awful offensive line it's hard to make a judgment.

Da Bears have never been a hotbed for offenses (understatement), but hot OC's are eyeballing HC positions. We get a retread.

Ah. If not a Bears starter maybe he'll get a shot as a backup or starting with another team. Or, the Bears may keep starting him while a hot rookie gets up to speed -0-?

Pat McAfee Says Aaron Rodgers Won’t Be on Show for Remainder of NFL Season

After a controversial, conspiracy-centric run of interviews on The Pat McAfee Show on ESPN, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is done appearing on the show for the season.

McAfee made the announcement Wednesday morning, one day after Rodgers refused to apologize for falsely asserting ABC host Jimmy Kimmel would appear in documents connected to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein—comments McAfee did not address in announcing the end of Rodgers' run.

"Aaron Rodgers, season four is officially done," the former Indianapolis Colts punter said. "There's gonna be a lot of people happy with that, myself included, to be honest. The way it ended, it got real loud. I am happy that that is not gonna be in my mentions going forward." ...

 Are you that passionate about Justin, the Bears and the Packers?
Hate the Pack, seeing potential on the Bears.

Knocking them out of the playoffs would be sweeeeeet.
How Jordan Love outdid Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre in Year 1

... No matter what Love does from here on out -- whether he wins any MVPs or a Super Bowl like those two before him -- he will carry a distinction neither Favre nor Rodgers could ever claim: He's a playoff quarterback in his first season as Green Bay's full-time starting quarterback. And he's leading the NFL's youngest team to boot....

Over the final eight games, Love completed 70.3% of his passes (third best over that stretch) and was second in touchdown passes (18, one behind Dallas' Dak Prescott) with only one interception.

For the entire 17-game season, Love finished second in the NFL with 32 touchdown passes (second to Prescott's 36) and raised his completion percentage to 64.2% while throwing for 4,159 yards (seventh best) -- numbers that compare favorably to Rodgers' 2008 season (63.6%, 4,038 yards, 28 touchdowns in 16 games).

All this with the youngest team in the NFL and one of the youngest ever to make the playoffs. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Packers are the fourth-youngest team to make the playoffs since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger at an average age of 25.58 based on weighted playing time....
