Somewhat related - I was a 7th grader in brand new Tilden Jr. High. We voted on the mascot and the way cool Tarantulas won. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on February 12, 2000, with school superintendent Dr. Lawrence L. Muir and school board members digging the first dirt. In 2001, the South Park Elementary Center opened.

In high school, they let the seniors vote on a theme to the prom. Needless to say this was not a good idea.Vrede too wrote:Not an online poll but 15 or so years ago NC built a new elementary school and let the kids vote on the name. We banded together to vote for a Camden, NJ themed prom. There was another really offensive super messed up theme we picked that I'm not gonna mention but it had to do with certain atrocities committed during WWII. We weren't the classiest bunch.

Nobody would take his death seriously. The kid would somehow be killed and some asshole kid would yell out "omg you killed Kenny!" Whilst another responds "you bastard!"O Really wrote:Or what would happen at the school if "Kenny" got killed?
Principles probably wouldn't even be mad at that point and the entire school would burst out into laughter.

A proposal by a British government agency to let the Internet suggest a name for a $287 million polar research ship probably seemed like a good idea at the time.
Now, the agency is the latest group to see what happens when web users are asked to unleash their creative energy: R.R.S. Boaty McBoatface is a clear front-runner....
The initiatives are often hilarious but don’t often succeed. Remember when Slovak lawmakers overrode the public’s vote in 2012 to rename a pedestrian bridge after the actor Chuck Norris?...
The poll closes April 16 — that is, if the Natural Environment Research Council can ever get the crashed polling website back online again.

It isn’t that Colbert has necessarily wanted to take the bridge away from Hungarian historical figure Miklos Zrinyi, so much as to keep the bridge from being named after "martial artist and Hungarian folk hero Chuck Norris."
The mission reached its climax on Thursday (Sept. 14) night’s show with a visit from Andras Simonyi, Hungary’s ambassador to the United States. Carrying an official letter from the Hungarian government in an official gold-embossed, red leather folder, Simonyi read the following:
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Hungary presents its compliments to the Colbert Nation and has the honor to inform them of the following — The public petition for the name of the M-Zero bridge in Hungary due to be finished in 2008 has been closed. The winning name is Stephen Colbert."

Where do you find this crap, Seth? Think, man - what possible relationship is there between attending funerals (traditionally the job of the VP anyway) and an historic diplomatic trip to solidify a reasonable relationship with the closest country to the US that isn't on the border and rebuild a 50+ year diplomatic disaster? You can call it "humor" if you want, but I'll bet the original author didn't intend it so.
