... "What I wanted to be very clear is that this is a heavily, heavily trafficked, heavily traveled, to be more accurate, area of the campus of the White House," (WH Press Secretary Karine) Jean-Pierre told reporters during Wednesday's press conference. "It is where visitors to the West Wing come through.” ...
She must have realized that there might be an issue with admitting to White House cocaine trafficking.
Before this time tomorrow a wingnut GQP House crawler will come out with a Mexican cartel bribery child sex change sort of operation going on in plain sight. There will be no evidence of this, yet it will become true anyway. Many people smiled but many hung their heads and walked away. That's the way ti goes these days. Crazy is standard.

The recreational cannabis referendum is not technically binding and would have to be followed by legislation, though the Tribal Council has already signaled its support for the change.
Still has to be approved. But likely will it sounds like. Bet there's gonna be lots of police right outside the borders trying to nab people.

I wonder. The Rez draws the Indian-curious, casino patrons and is the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park - millions of visitors per year. Heavy border policing will piss off many more than stoners, though I suppose the bastards could surreptitiously monitor dispensaries. Wait, would that be illegal on the Rez?
Too perfect, asshole rights-abusing narc persecutor:
Florida man;
Drives drunk;
Flees a hit and run like he's a drug mule;
Cowers from accountability by trying to leverage his DoJ card;
Benefits from DoJ inattention for two months until AP questions why he's still on the job.
... When officers arrived at Ruddy’s home in the suburb of Temple Terrace, they found him hunched over his pickup, holding his keys and using the vehicle for support, the report said. Officers noted that he had urinated on himself, was unable to walk without help and failed a field sobriety test.
“I understand we might be having a better night,” Tampa police patrolman Taylor Grant said before looking at the business card.
“Why didn’t you stop?” the officer asked.
“I didn’t realize it was that serious,” Ruddy said in a slurred response.
“You hit a vehicle and you ran,” the officer said....
It's a really stupid argument factually, too. No one gets high from secondhand pot smoke seepage through the walls from another apt and the negative effects of secondhand tobacco smoke seepage through the walls from another apt are negligible.
The argument of the health effects of it, yes, far fetched. The argument of the smell of it every day.... Well, it'd put me in a murderous mood if I had to smell it every day if they other tenants weren't respectful enough to take it outside.
It's like nuking fish in the work microwave. Those people should be shot on sight.
Tobacco, pot or both? rstrong liked to gripe about his pot smoking neighbors. I asked him if he ever did anything proactive like getting an air purifier, putting a towel at the bottom of his door or even asking them to take it outside, open a window, etc. I don't think he answered, he wanted the law to step in.
North Carolina Congressman Chuck Edwards, NC-11, has introduced the Stop Pot Act, which would withhold federal funding from states and tribes that allow the use of recreational marijuana....
So much for con support for states' rights. Fascist.

I always wonder why they waste the time and effort on legislation that's iffy to get out of committee, iffier to pass the house and has zero chance of passing the Senate and being signed by the president.
NC-11 has only so many Republicans to vote for him.
Eamus Catuli~AC 000000000101010202020303010304 020405....Ahhhh, forget it, it's gonna be a while.

I THINK this is a deliberate slap to the Cherokee, a bone tossed to NC LEOs and a warning to the millions of NC anti-prohibitionists. Those are accomplished whether it passes Congress or not. I agree, a fair chance that it will die in committee.

Besides being wasted time and effort, is it any more effective than a strongly worded statement?

The bill's introduction got this article and TV news (just came on this minute ) whereas a press release might not have. I suspect that this was requested by butthurt prohibitionist NC or even national LEOs as part of their denial of having been America-harming fascists for decades. Maybe they think it will pass with some future Congress and POTUS.
Why do any DOA bills get introduced? Is it solely about the campaign contributions that the pandering morons reap?
They lied for decades, it's what cops do. To be accurate, D.A.R.E. worked fine at creating make-work for LEOs, gutting freedoms and at helping maintain failed prohibition

IDK, the intent was may have been there, maybe along the lines of "we really don't know what to do so let's do this" type of thing. Granted, they probably didn't look too hard or really think it through.
It served them well for a while.

Well, we can start with recognizing that most teens don't have a "drug problem," but by the time they're in grade 12 46% acknowledge having "illicit drugs" at least once - somewhere around 80% of that being weed. So one question for the researchers would be "what is different among the drug users and the non-drug users?
Generally, teens will do what their group sees as cool, and won't do things that are uncool. Anything that parents and teachers wag their fingers and say "don't do" is automatically cool.
Scare tactics rarely work, with the possible exception being if a kid's close friend dies. That even includes scare tactics related to the real danger of unknown or unexpected fentanyl.
If you can figure out how to keep teens from driving fast, jumping off waterfalls, going out with "bad boys", hanging out with sketchy people at a warehouse party in a scroungy section of town, and other risky behaviour, you'll know how to keep them off drugs.

Implied but not actually stated in the article is the fact that the US did not ban poppy cultivation during the 20 years of our often brutal occupation. In fact, from Contra coke to SE Asian weed to Afghan heroin the CIA and other USG elements have encouraged, protected or at least tolerated drug production and transport by friendly characters too unsavory for the US to fund directly. It's probably true for the fentanyl supply chain, too. The 'pusher man' is us.
