Not sure what all the whining is about. Other than it being odd to call anything Atheist a "Church" - probably just mocking - it seems pretty normal: current topics speakers, "complimentary coffee and snacks", advocating service and sacrifice over hedonism, games, shared meals, meetup at a bar, etc. Could be just about any nonreligious civic organization.

Fwiw, I have never attended a defined exclusively atheist event, though I suppose accidentally atheist events are possible. I just don't find belief to be important enough to define myself by its absence.

Breeches Bible

One interesting variation of the Geneva Bible is the so-called "Breeches Bible", the first of which appeared in 1579. In the Breeches Bible, Genesis Chapter III Verse 7 reads: "Then the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed figge tree leaves together, and made themselves breeches." In the King James Version of 1611, "breeches" was changed to "aprons". Geneva Bibles with the "breeches" passage continued to be printed well into the time of the King James Bible of 1611.

This is important. Was Eve a breeches-wearing dyke, or was Adam an apron-wearing fairy?

That's a good example of humans creating religion based on what is in their own society. Notice how in Renaissance paintings supposedly portraying events and people in the time and place of Jesus, the clothing was European, along with the buildings and - not surprisingly - the people. If the Breeches Bible came out in 1579, that was at the tail end of Middle English, and "breeches" would have described the knicker-type pants they had. But maybe the next translator had seen portrayals or descriptions of what Columbus' invaders called "Indians" and decided the clothing made from leaves was less sophisticated. Goes back to the question of accuracy of translation that CAT so vigorously defended, though, doesn't it? The translators in 1579 and 1611 would have been working from the Greek and Hebrew. So what does the original word mean? If they don't know, or have to guess, then they're making up scripture.

When a lot of Christians want to bash gays, they quote Leviticus, even though they consider very little else in Leviticus to be relevant to their life. It might be interesting for them to note Jesus' compliance with Levitical law, using as an example Jesus healing the man with leprosy. People with leprosy were considered "unclean" and Leviticus contains specific instructions on how to deal with them. Including not to touch them. Jesus, intentionally ignoring the Levitical law, touched and healed the man, and also included healing of the lepers in his instructions to his disciples.
