A popular Instagram account debunking conspiracy theories, disinformation and myths about coronavirus has been shutdown by COVID-deniers.

Anti-vaxxers and COVID-deniers have succeeded in shutting down an Instagram page used to dispel virus myths.

The @coronavirusfactchecks account, which uses “easily shareable medical information to counter misinformation”, was disabled by Instagram — after just 36 posts — after COVID-deniers mass reported the account.

Instagram will often deactivate accounts when it receives a flood of reporting instead of first looking into why people are reporting the page.

YouTuber Abbie Richards, well-known for her informative videos debunking conspiracies and disinformation, uncovered the deactivation.


Coronavirus Fact Checks had been creating its social media posts for less than a month when its account was cut.

The creator had created a back-up on Facebook and recently started posting to Twitter as a way of keeping the account going.

The account creates short and succinct picture posts debunking conspiracy theories, disinformation and myths about coronavirus.

So it's all over national news about how awful the covid is in LA county. And it is. But it isn't at all the way it looks on TV. LA County has 10 million people, more than something like 30 states, and has not much less land area than Connecticut. So is then entire county eaten up with the covid? Nope. To the shock of nobody, the most terrible areas are those with a lot of economically disadvantaged Hispanic and Black people - people who, if they have a job, have to go to it and probably have a lot of interaction with people from all over. And who live in overcrowded housing and who may have to ride buses to work. And who don't have the option of shopping in a nice not-crowded Von's or Albertson's because the only grocery close by is Food 4 Less that's always crowded and has lackluster mask/distance compliance. And who when they go outside don't have nice open parks and beaches to hang out in, but other places where there's always crowds. You get the idea. How could they possibly avoid getting covid no matter their individual efforts or intent.

So is anybody saying "we need to do something about/for these people because they're the ones running up the numbers?" Nooooo. Are these people on the priority list for vaccine? Noooooo, unless they're there because of age, health condition, etc. Why not? if you know where the biggest part of the problem is and you don't do anything about it, why is that? Lady O thinks "they" just hope all those people will just die/starve/kill each other/whatever. I'm inclined to agree with her.
