The Religion Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

US evangelical magazine calls for removal of 'grossly immoral' Trump

Christianity Today, a leading US evangelical Christian publication, said Thursday that President Donald Trump is "morally lost and confused" and should be removed from office.

In an editorial, the magazine said it generally steers clear of politics but "we do feel it necessary from time to time to make our own opinions on political matters clear."

"The facts in this instance are unambiguous," it said.

"The president of the United States attempted to use his political power to coerce a foreign leader to harass and discredit one of the president's political opponents," Christianity Today said.

"That is not only a violation of the Constitution; more importantly, it is profoundly immoral."

Christianity Today was founded by Billy Graham, a prominent Christian evangelist who died last year, but the Graham family is no longer associated with the publication.

Franklin Graham, Billy Graham's son, is also an influential Christian evangelical leader and a staunch Trump supporter. His ministry publishes its own magazine, Decision.

Christianity Today, which has a circulation of around 130,000, said Trump has "dumbed down the idea of morality in his administration.

"He himself has admitted to immoral actions in business and his relationship with women, about which he remains proud," it said.

"His Twitter feed alone -- with its habitual string of mischaracterizations, lies, and slanders -- is a near perfect example of a human being who is morally lost and confused."

Christianity Today said the congressional hearings that led to Trump's impeachment by the House of Representatives on Wednesday "have illuminated the president's moral deficiencies for all to see."

"Trump's evangelical supporters have pointed to his Supreme Court nominees, his defense of religious liberty, and his stewardship of the economy, among other things, as achievements that justify their support of the president," it said.

"We believe the impeachment hearings have made it absolutely clear... that President Trump has abused his authority for personal gain and betrayed his constitutional oath."

... "Whether Mr. Trump should be removed from office by the Senate or by popular vote next election -- that is a matter of prudential judgment," it said. "That he should be removed, we believe, is not a matter of partisan loyalties but loyalty to the Creator of the Ten Commandments."

Trump enjoys solid support among white evangelical Christians although a Fox News poll in October found that those backing him had slipped from 81 percent in the 2016 election to around 70 percent now.

:-|| When I read that the magazine was founded by Billy Graham, I went  and immediately thought that his son cannot possibly be involved with it, but the next sentence cleared that up. If there is a hell, I will bet Franklin Graham will be there. Sail Hatan.

Triggered, again:

Donald Trump's latest tweets!
A far left magazine, or very “progressive,” as some would call it, which has been doing poorly and hasn’t been involved with the Billy Graham family for many years, Christianity Today, knows nothing about reading a perfect transcript of a routine phone call and would rather.....

....have a Radical Left nonbeliever, who wants to take your religion & your guns, than Donald Trump as your President. No President has done more for the Evangelical community, and it’s not even close. You’ll not get anything from those Dems on stage. I won’t be reading ET again!

Sounds about right. He confused the ballot box for the box office during his last rally. Said something along the lines of Democrats experiencing a backlash at the box office. Something like that.

The guy is an entertainer, not a leader, after all. He plays a character for the American public. People need to lay off the TV.

Not just confused, but also lying:
New Fox News poll on impeachment contradicts its most loyal viewer — President Trump

A new Fox News poll on voter support for impeachment contradicted President Trump, who recently boasted major support in favor of “No Impeachment.”

Amid last week’s historic House Judiciary Committee vote to advance two articles of impeachment, abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, the president tweeted, “Poll numbers have gone through the roof in favor of No Impeachment, especially with swing States and Independents in swing States. People have figured out that the Democrats have no case, it is a total Hoax.”

But a fresh Fox News poll conducted last week and released on Sunday found that a majority of the American electorate wants Trump impeached. Fifty percent are in favor of impeaching and removing the president, while four percent say he should be impeached but not removed, and 41 percent oppose impeachment altogether.
Then, 45SHOLE threw another lying tantrum:
Trump slammed the poll Sunday afternoon on Twitter: “The @foxnewPolls, always inaccurate, are heavily weighted toward Dems. So ridiculous - same thing happened in 2016. They got it all wrong. Get a new pollster!” he wrote....
As anyone can easily look up, ALL of the pools said that Hillary would win the national vote by 2-4% and she did win it by just over 2%. It was the analysts, including Dolt .45’s own team, that got the EC very slightly wrong.

Also, the polls didn't say Clinton had a 100% chance of becoming president. The polls weren't wrong. They still gave Trump a chance of winning, albeit small (like his hands). Meaning Trump winning was still a possibility. Statistics don't predict exact outcomes, they indicate likelihoods. But I wouldn't expect the President of the United States to understand that.

Just to be accurate, the polls didn't lay odds for anything. It was the analysts looking at the polls that inferred chances that were indeed less than 100%, as you say.

Too many evangelical "leaders" have rejected ALL principle in favor of short term political crumbs. Shameful. Many modern “conservative” Christians urinate on both the Bible and Jesus. Dolt .45 has become their god.

Your cute little verse is quite an accurate description of how trump and his followers view trump. And the cutest part is that trump views himself this way as well. Something you may want to keep in mind is that Jesus was a revolutionary figure; he would not have been a trump cult member.

No doubt about it. If he were to appear next week, I would bet that by then end of next year he would be convicted and sentenced to death. Merry Christmas to each and every warrior in the war on Christmas on both sides.
