Trump (and lately his political ho Sarah) have been trying to characterize the protesters as violent thugs - even when they're just standing there with a sign or wearing an anti-Trump shirt.

And in a few cases, no sign, no anti-Trump shirt, just the wrong skin color.

There's a difference in a "violent protest" and in a protest that turns violent.

Perhaps more so to you and me than to the public. Several folks here have already made an equivalence between "extremists" on the right and left.

It will work with some voters. Look how often the cops are supported when they instigated the violence.

Hence my "usually counter-productive." The left mostly loses when violence occurs, even when on the ground it was justifiable.

I was hoping someone would engage with the philosophic and practical aspects of what we're seeing:

However, what should people do when they are marginalized and oppressed and see the real possibility of a neofascist POTUS - a real fascist, not the wingnutty version ascribed to Obama or "Hitlary" - who is energizing millions of flat out racists with neofascist tendencies? In hindsight, would we have objected to any tactics used to try and stop Naziism early? And, from the relative security of our white middle class (or richer) positions, do we have any standing to criticize tactics if we aren't doing everything we can to nonviolently prevent a Trump (or arguably Cruz) presidency?

... I don't have answers, just laying out an alternate perspective. Discuss.

The Daily Dot: Donald Trump's volunteer contract forbids all criticism of Trump for life

Donald Trump's campaign requires volunteers to sign a contract that forbids them from criticizing the Republican presidential front-runner, his family members, any Trump businesses or products, or his campaign. For life.

This also applies to any employees you may have.

Volunteers must also sign a non-compete agreement stating that the volunteer cannot work for another candidate. This extends not just through Trump's current campaign, but any future campaigns and both terms of any possible Presidency.

Again, this also applies to any employees you may have.

Because volunteers give up their rights but get nothing in return, the contract is likely legally unenforceable, professor Samuel Estreicher, who directs the labor program at NYU Law School, told NBC News

Of course, "not legally enforceable" isn't the same as "not legally actionable." If you don't have a few tens of thousands of dollars for a court battle plus any appeal, he can enforce it regardless of what the law says.

Here's a different take on the situation. Trump's ties to "professional" wrestling are well known. What if he has chosen a path of outrageous boisterous language akin to the style of wrasslers to engender a cult like following when it is really all an act, and if elected, he reverts back to common sense?

He'd do the same thing he's done all his life. Put his name on something while somebody else runs it. He'd make speeches, take "news conferences" and talk about what a wonderful, greatest ever, most magnificent, amazing yooooooge job he's doing, and who knows who'll be actually in charge.

Mostly the followers support his racism, but there seem to be a substantial number who believe he is only playing for the racist vote and will turn into Jesus or gen Patton or the best president ever after he is elected
