Sedition

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Yeah, but what's bothersome is the courts and the majority of the public agree these are real crimes but the trumpaloons still don't believe they are and this was some sort of peaceful protest.

What, if anything can change their minds.
I'm not seeing that anyone getting strong sentences. Some of this is 20 year stuff.

Probation is not tough. Can you imagine the sentences if the rioters were black?

"Lamberth also sentenced an 81-year-old Army veteran on the same day to three years of probation for illegally breaching the Capitol.

Gary Wickersham, one of the oldest of more than 700 rioters facing charges, was sentenced to 90 days of home detention, and will also have to pay a $2,000 fine and $500 for building damage.

Defense lawyers argued against any confinement, saying that Wickersham would be unable to visit his grandchildren during his “golden years”.

During his hearing, Wickersham asked for “mercy” from Lamberth and explained that he went to the Capitol because “you get bored” sitting at home.

“Mr Wickersham, I appreciate what you’ve done here. I think you have led the way for others to recognize that the jig is up,” said Lamberth. The 78-year-old judge also told Wickersham that he is “the first defendant I’ve had that’s older than me in quite some time”.

On Tuesday, a Pennsylvania man was also sentenced over his involvement in the riots after his wife accidentally implicated him in a Facebook status. US District Judge James Boasberg sentenced Gary Edwards to one year of probation, 200 hours of community service, as well as a $2,500 fine and $500 in damage fees."
That's a very trumpy sort of defense the old bastard proffers. He longs for home confinement so he can "...get bored" sitting at home. This is what got the fucker in trouble in the first place.

Just went back and re-read the first six or so pages of this thread.

Awesome.

This assault on our democracy should never be forgotten.

January 6 Rioter's Charge That DOJ Should Prosecute Portland Protesters Denied By Trump-Appointed Judge

Let’s play a game of one of these things is not like the other. There were the Portland protests in the summer of 2020 where many people took to the streets in protest of the murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and so many others. Then earlier this year there was the January 6th insurrection where people advanced upon the Capitol to stop Congress from certifying election results.

But don’t just take my word for it. According to Newsweek, Carl Nichols, a judge appointed by former President Donald Trump, rebuffed an accused Capitol rioter’s claim that the Department of Justice should investigate social justice protesters in Portland. Nicholas went on to state in a December 21st decision:
“There are obvious differences between those, like Miller, who stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, and those who rioted in the streets of Portland in the summer of 2020,” Nichols wrote in his decision.

“The Portland rioters’ conduct, while obviously serious, did not target a proceeding prescribed by the Constitution and established to ensure a peaceful transition of power,” the judge added. “Nor did the Portland rioters, unlike those who assailed America’s Capitol in 2021, make it past the buildings’ outer defenses.”
:---P
Garrett Miller is currently facing five criminal charges, including sending a death threat to Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez of New York. Miller argues that he is “selectively prosecuting him for his conservative political beliefs while not prosecuting the BLM and Antifa protesters.”
:crybaby: :violin:
However, Nichols said that Miller hadn’t provided evidence for his claim beyond “anecdotal evidence.” ...

Same for treasonous members of Congress. Corporations love them again:
Six Months After Capital Riot, Walmart, AT&T, Intel And Others Renege On Political Donations Pledge

In the aftermath of the Jan. 6 Capitol Riot, dozens of large companies pledged to avoid donations to the 147 Republicans, who objected to Congress’ certification of Joe Biden’s victory based on former President Donald Trump’s election lies.

Six months later, many of those large companies have turned their backs to those pledges and American democracy, continuing to seek political influence through corporate donations to Republican groups.

Walmart, Pfizer, Intel, General Electric and AT&T are just a few of the corporations that have restarted their political donations to Republicans.
:obscene-birdiered:
... Some Companies kept their promises including Hallmark, which has not given a PAC donation this year and has not given directly to the 147 Republicans. Additionally Hallmark has asked Josh Hawley (R-Mo) and Roger Marshall (R-KS) to return direct contributions made to them....

Yep.

Capitol rioters' tears, remorse don't spare them from jail

Mix of harshness and laxity, in both charging and sentencing. Lots more to come.

NBC aired a long interview with 3 Capitol cops about 1/6/2021 during their 1830 ET news. They mostly discuss their own horrific experiences and the asshole rioters, but also trash the former PINO for inciting and congresspeople, by name, for denying how serious the event was. Good. More tonight on Nightline.

Update to an arrest that's probably already been posted here

"A college student who turned his father into the FBI after the Capitol riot told Vice News' David Gilbert he fears his dad is becoming more radicalized in jail.

Guy Reffitt, a Texas man and member of the far-right Three Percenters group, was arrested at his home on January 19, 2021, after his son, Jackson, tipped off the FBI.

According to court documents, the elder Reffitt was charged with five counts, including possession of a semi-automatic weapon on Capitol grounds. He has pleaded not guilty and is currently awaiting trial with dozens of other Capitol riot defendants at the Central Detention Facility in Washington, DC.

People housed in that jail face the most serious charges relating to the insurrection. As Insider previously reported, they have in recent months bonded by organizing group activities, singing the national anthem every night, and writing newsletters"

These are the worst of the worst. Lock them up for a long time, see if that "becoming more radicalized" lasts.
Dick Cheney comes to Capitol on Jan. 6, says he's 'deeply disappointed' in GOP leadership

... Asked why he came to the Capitol this day, Cheney said, "It's an important historical event," referring to the anniversary of the insurrection. "You can't overestimate how important it is."

Image
Former Vice President Dick Cheney and Rep. Liz Cheney recite the pledge of allegiance on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, on Jan. 6, 2021.

He added, "I'm deeply disappointed we don't have better leadership in the Republican Party to restore the Constitution."

... Cheney then went to the House floor with his daughter -- he has lifetime floor privileges as a congressman who held the seat she now occupies -- to observe a moment of silence....

Besides the Cheneys and her staffers, there were no other Republicans in sight.
:obscene-birdiered:
... When asked for his reaction to Republican leadership’s handling of this day, Cheney -- not one to mince words -- said, "Well, it’s not a leadership that resembles any of the folks that I knew when I was here for 10 years -- dramatically."

Rep Liz Cheney said it was "very concerning," adding, "I think a party that is in thrall to a cult personality is a party that is dangerous to the country, and I think we clearly have got to get to a place we are we are focused on substance and on issues." ...

A retired firefighter who texted a selfie of himself inside the Capitol on January 6 to a federal agent pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor

A New York man who sent photos of himself inside the Capitol building on January 6 to his girlfriend's brother — a federal agent — pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor charge connected to the attack.

Thomas Fee, a retired firefighter from Freeport, New York, was arrested nearly one year ago after he turned himself in to authorities two weeks after the insurrection.

On Tuesday, Fee, 54, pleaded guilty to one count of parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building, as first reported by WUSA. The charge carries a sentence of up to six months in prison.

Following his 2021 arrest, Fee initially faced charges of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds. Federal prosecutors have offered several Capitol rioters the lesser parading charge in exchange for their guilty pleas....

Prosecutors identified Fee early on in the aftermath of the riot after he texted a photo and video of himself inside the Capitol to his girlfriend's brother, who worked for the US Diplomatic Service, according to charging documents.

The special agent's wife first saw a Facebook post made by Fee's girlfriend saying Fee was at the pro-Trump "Stop the Steal" rally that preceded the riot, according to a criminal complaint. The agent then texted Fee, his sister's boyfriend, to ask if he was in Washington, DC, at the rally, investigators said.

Fee responded by sending a selfie taken inside the Capitol rotunda amid scores of rioters. Fee also sent his girlfriend's brother a video of himself from inside the building where other rioters can be heard screaming "Pelosi" and "tyranny," the complaint said. In a text message accompanying the video, Fee reportedly said he was "at the tip of the spear."
You're the butt of the joke. Easiest bust ever for your sister's boyfriend.
... as a volunteer firefighter in Hempstead 2004, Fee was suspended after being accused of yelling racial slurs at a Black doctor who walked by the firehouse a couple of times, the outlet reported.
