I suspect the main reason Arietta was let go was because of his poor performance. He made a polite request to the reporter about his mask ("I'd love it if you took off your mask") but IMHO that's not enough on its own to justify his firing. But who knows what other crap he's been saying off mike.

Apparently "surly, selfish, science-denying tool" is an apt description. Sure, he might have gotten by with it if he was his old self, but his recent record was awful. 8 runs in 4 innings, 6 runs in 2 innings, never got past 5 innings, frequent injuries, 3 mill contract....yada.

Monday night the Giants beat the Dodgers again, 1-0, taking a 2-1 lead in the five game series. The wicked wind helped the Giants, by deflecting the Dodgers' last chance to even the score. It was windy up here today as well, with a fire busting out down near San Jose.

Don't think I've ever looked forward to winter as much as this year, but that's another subject.

Strong winds, whipping around the outfield, began about an hour before the first pitch, blowing so hard that both foul poles swayed throughout the night. Max Scherzer, who ultimately struck out 10 batters in seven innings of one-run ball, noticeably lost his balance midway through facing leadoff hitter Tommy La Stella and later said the wind was "pushing me towards home plate."
