I just can't figure out why people care about who marries who. I have an awful lot of limits I include in my life, but I don't expect others to have the same. You can send your flag on down to the First Church of The Refrigerator; I care less. Maybe one of those "religious folks" will let you cut in the "morality line" since you have a monopoly on being clueless what morality is.rstrong wrote:We'll just flag your entire post as "Exhibit A for how religious folks who sanctimoniously claim a monopoly on morality are always the first to commit everything from hate crimes and genocide."Seth Milner wrote:"Hatred, homophobia, racism" etc. are the fashionable buzz words of the decade.

To quote your fearless mentor: "Project much"?® I get your saying that support of immoral behavior is a support of "equality", which has nothing whatsoever to do with rights of women, blacks, or my remark about homosexual marriage ; that's only your twisted reasoning and screaming liberalism. I said nothing against homosexual marriage other than it is a novelty not previously available.
billy.pilgrim wrote:Seth, just where is it that you want to go?
In reference to what? If you mean this:

I don't doubt it. I'm not a bigot; I've said this before; I neither support or condemn homosexuality; I'm happy your gaining recognition, because It's surprising the number of old homosexual men seen nowadays. Keep up the good work.

Look up any of a variety of definitions of "moral" or "morality." Some moral principles are religion-based, some are not. Among those that are religion-based, there are substantial differences as to moral standards. It's pretty common for a person observing someone with moral standards different from their own to say "s/he has no morals, or is otherwise going to Hell in a handbasket and taking the country with them." Does a citizen have to subscribe to a particular set of moral principles in order to receive equal treatment under the law? Is there room for more than one set of moral principles in a country?

It's pretty common for Christians to differ in what is moral. Now, the majority of them are not homophobic like Seth Milner. His ilk is reforming or dying out.

If Christians stuck to the moral principles actually taught by Christ, they'd have a pretty consistent code that most people could find acceptable - even if they weren't Christians. But unfortunately they started making up stuff pretty early on and continue to do so.

If you ever wanted solid proof that there are some crazy people calling themselves Republicans...
“The Republican Party has never done anything for the working man like me, even though we’ve voted Republican for years,” said Leo Martin, a 62-year-old machinist from Newport, N.H., who attended Mr. Trump’s Claremont rally.
What's that about insanity? Do the same thing, expect different results?

Here in reality, violent crime has been dropping for decades. Pollution, callous safety risks, indentured servitude and other corporate sins are being addressed. Divorce rates have been dropping for decades.
Racism, sexism, homophobia and other hatreds common within living memory are tolerated far less and have been slowly diminishing. Which makes for "hellish living" for you, but I'll choose the ethics and morals of this generation over ANY previous.
An Assyrian clay tablet dating to around 2800 B.C. bears the inscription: “Our Earth is degenerate in these later days; there are signs that the world is speedily coming to an end; bribery and corruption are common; children no longer obey their parents; every man wants to write a book and the end of the world is evidently approaching.”

Here we find undoubted symptoms of slow corruption; and woe to the nations that are no longer able to bring that morbid process to a halt

As a programmer and IT guy I take an interest in unintended consequences. Give someone a tool, device or new law, and they use it for something other than what it was intended. For example the Duplessis Orphans in Quebec in the 1950s.
Quebec at the time was absolutely dominated by the Catholic Church. Maurice Duplessis, the premier of Quebec, was a strict Catholic. The church ran orphanges, and Duplessis signed an order changing orphanages into hospitals in order to provide them with federal subsidies. The point being that there were subsidies from the federal government for building hospitals, but not orphanages. The government paid $1.25 a day for orphans, but $2.75 a day for psychiatric patients.
And so seven religious orders declared 22,000 orphaned children to be mentally ill. Schooling stopped. Orphans became inmates in a mental institution where they were sexually, physically, and mentally abused by lay monitors and nuns.
Even setting aside the Church being more vile than their usual pedophile exchange program: Where did they get 22,000 orphans, in just Quebec?
Morality at the time meant that when a woman or teenage girl got pregnant, all anyone knew was that she "went to stay with relatives in the country" and returned a few months later. And another baby was abandoned on the church doorstep. This happened A LOT.
Now much of the stigma is gone. The Quiet Revolution happened, where health and education in Quebec was taken away from the Church. It became acceptable for single mothers to keep their babies.
Which is why you get Milner/Mr.B types deploring all the single mothers, a problem you didn't see a few decades ago. Because taking responsibility for their children is somehow immoral compared to sweeping them under the rug. And of course the church having less power is a sign that society is degenerating.

I believe people tend to look at sexual things that are out of the ordinary as being immoral. Our society is deeply ingrained with the man/woman relationship because it was hammered into them all their lives as well as being a religious issue. Used to be there were sissies and tom-boys when it came to being accused of being homosexual; there were perverts and sex fiends before the words pedophile, bestiality, nymphomania, and masochism became popular terms. Personally, I have no thoughts whether any of those are normal, moral, or immoral; however I will speak out sort of in a ridiculing yet neutral manner on many of these subjects.
It's laughable to see Vrede too and rstrong get their dy-pees all soiled and whining with their b.s. accusations such as "deploring" others, being bigoted, homophobic, etc. I suppose they've got to have a scapegoat since I'm the only one here that doesn't fit into their little clique, and they harbor this overwhelming need to impress their friends in an attempt to humor them . . .

You really are a special kind of stupid, aren't you? Perhaps you should change your screen name to rstupid; it's more fitting for you. A few decades ago, homosexuals and unwed mothers were highly vilified in society. Homosexuals hid their orientation, unwed mothers kept out of sight when they began showing. Nowadays, homosexuality, unwed mothers, disrespect, foul language, and public lewdness are the norm. THOSE were the "problems" you didn't see a few decades ago. You can crawl back under your rock now.

The point is, you are. And you keep demonstrating it.
Even setting aside your homophobic bigotry, you demonstrate it with your words below about unwed mothers. ESPECIALLY in the context of the post you're responding to.

The N word - and there are many similar words, racist, sexist and otherwise - is rarely heard now compared to your "good 'ol days." Of course I very much doubt that YOU would have considered them to be foul language.
