However, I still think the "whimpering k9" post was nascar.
Not that it really matters - I simply enjoy linguistic type stuff, and my syn-tax-o-meter is pretty darn accurate.

The blame game by the libs. Does is it ever go away?
The libs inability to carry on with a civil discourse when they were challenged and turn to uncivil discourse in a feeble attempt to win their point was a contributor to the undoing of the BRN forum. However, based on the Administrator's post that explained why BRN went away, I would say look no further than the infamous Vrede. The MO fits.

That doesn't really add up.... most of the libs were banned..... the cons were basically the only ones able to post when it shut down.
Not that I blame either, it's impossible to tell why it was actually shut down. It just isn't very logical to blame "libs libs libs".

I left the Wilmington forums just prior to it's demise; it was in utter turmoil and the Administrator just lost control of it. Some of the T/N posters posted there occasionally, and some are currently posting in the Tuscaloosa and Sarasota forums which are still going. I haven't checked on any other of the Halifax ownerships.Vrede wrote: We know for a fact that ownership shut the forums down.

That valiant law enforcement officer should be admonished by his superiors for repeatedly backing up from those assaults by the cowardly, vicious, buck nacked piece of garbage, thereby endangering his own life as well as those of onlookers. Correct procedure in such situations is to pull your piece and start blasting away: POWPOWPOWPOW! Sayonara, two-legged stool specimen. Handling such matters in the prescribed manner also sends a clear message to other nacked sociopathic lowlifes that society will have zero tolerance for them and their kind. Everybody knows this.

What do you do, frequent all the forums? You seem very familiar with this one, rather the BRN board.scooter wrote: BTW, your beloved dalejr is alive and well in Tuscaloosa.........
Forget dalejr (though nascar oughta love her). Have you run across maddawg and mwearl? They both got banned when the BRN forum went through a shake-up in 2011. Guess it was a harbinger of things to come.

Don't worry, I'm not saying anything to dalejr or frumenschen about this site, but the inevitable can happen.

Re: They're Gone....."This board has no forums"
Can anyone give good reasons why a newspaper in 2012 should host an anonymous forum?
I understand why it might have seemed like a good thing to do back when the internet and forums were fairly novel. You create a forum for readers to discuss current issues.
That's not how it is now. Most of the forum members don't even read the Hendersonville paper. Why should a business have to pay a nanny to babysit 20 adults? Why leave yourself liable to legal troubles?
It just seems like a royal PIA without much upside.
I enjoy them, especially when the mods have brains, but I can't understand why any newspaper is still operating one. I do understand why most papers have done away with them.

I don't understand the way blueridgenow did it, frankly that's not value added. I totally understand having the ability to comment at the bottom of stories, that's user engagement, return visits, etc.Stinger wrote:Can anyone give good reasons why a newspaper in 2012 should host an anonymous forum?

Somewhat of an update on the user "Dalejr" Before the forum in Sptbg. shut down, dalejr was listed as the newest user-a little over a week ago. He was getting NO responses to his posts and I don't recall what any of them were about.scooter wrote:I left the Wilmington forums just prior to it's demise; it was in utter turmoil and the Administrator just lost control of it. Hey guys and a big thank you to Keyboarder for the invite. How funny, the Libs took another board down, sure cause all the cons were so sweet and well mannered
I think all the papers want us to comment via Facebook on their articles and the closing of a forum may increase that.

Every advertiser these days want you "Like" them on Facebook. Since the news came out that F***book tracks your every move, I can't help but wonder if they get/got paid for the ones who click on "Like" from their websites? Zuckerberg, F***book, and other advertisers/websites that put "Like Us" in their ads or on their websites, can kiss my royal you-know-what; and that's my sweet and well mannered thoughts on the subject.Apache wrote:Hey guys and a big thank you to Keyboarder for the invite. Let me explain the situation here for 2012.
I have been given permission from the higher-ups to remove this forum at my discretion. As you know, many of the other New York Times Regional papers have already eliminated their forums.
And as I'm sure you have read elsewhere, the trend across the country is to eliminate anonymous forums.
I have several choices. All are based on how much of my limited time I have to spend making this forum clean and civil. Believe it or not, maintaining the forum is not high on my list of responsibilities.
There were 13 reported messages this morning. That cleanup takes up too much of my time.
1. I can delete the forum, as management suggests.
2. I can ban all the troublemakers.
3. I can just delete all troublesome threads entirely each day to save time.
4. I can leave things the way they are, because all of you make a pact to stop the name calling and outing other posters by name or occupation. And you agree to keep your posts clean of offensive language, just debating issues and not making personal attacks. No threats, no "you idiots," no bull stuff trying to hide offensive language.
What shall it be?

Good old Facebook! Want anything aired out for the whole world to see? Just get on Facebook. I tried it (1) time and was bombarded by "invite a friend" and worse "Farmville". Folks asking you to come help them harvest their crop or some other silly stuff. Heck, it's near all I can do to keep my own barn going.Leo Lyons wrote:Every advertiser these days want you "Like" them on Facebook. Facebook is the FBI and CIA's wet dream, not to mention stalkers and thieves. I don't think people realize the kinds of danger they put themselves in. Facebook is tracking you whether or not you click the "like" buttons, just FYI.

Correct. Clicking the like button makes it easier for the advertisers to track your shopping habits because the tracking goes through the Facebook network. Spam and rolling banners anyone?bannination wrote:Facebook is the FBI and CIA's wet dream, not to mention stalkers and thieves. I suggested years ago the SHJ treat registration like letters to the editor. In fact that is how I stumbled onto the forum and why I first registered by my proper name.billy.pilgrim wrote:Crock Hunter wrote:I received this nastygram from the Mod on GoUpState a few months ago..AntiAlias wrote:

I don't know who did all the "reporting" but they are the ones that cannot take a punch. Like my father said, "If you can't take a punch, get knocked down, get up and keep fighting then don't get in a fight. And he damn sure didn't mean don't get in a fight.

Re: They're Gone....."This board has no forums"
I don't think it's any worse than any other internet site or cell phones. My nieces and nephews persuaded me to sign up. It's a convenient way to keep up with them, and my brother and I enjoy agitating some of them with our leftiness. It has also come in handy for observing the activities of my enemies, whose pages you can't see without logging in. A friend and I developed a good offense to block one of them before she could initiate her plan. It's a handy tool for activists, though not secretive.bannination wrote:Facebook is the FBI and CIA's wet dream, not to mention stalkers and thieves. There's one glitch I haven't figured out. Yesterday, I had to "unlike" Romney, whom I never "liked." Had to do the same with Visa Small Business and Target.
That being said, I wouldn't post anything meant to be kept secret. If I plan a crime, I won't talk about it on facebook.
