Forum "maintenance" off and on this weekend Sat/Sun

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Maybe there could be a gibberish emoji that showed just an open mouth with gibberish spewing out of it and then just floating off into space. The gibberish should just be random letters of the alphabet spewing out of a grotesque toothless mouth. But I could be wrong.
I thought we already had that one?

I could not find a gibberish emoji per se, but I did find Blah Talking gifs. One example:

I also found a Gibberish Translator.

Yes, you Slugs can be quite bizarre.
Becomes:
Yos, ug Trugs caxan fo juto fizaxallo.

Either way, Useless.
I prefer a gibberish generator that just spews out random letters that just float off into the distance without making any semblance of sense or cognizant thought. With a scenic background showing an electrocuted hummingbird, distressed writhing koi, a skunk in a high voltage doom cage, five cats with sore asses, and somebody whacking butterflies out of the air with a baseball bat.

Sounds like what you've been using all along.

Nah, it wouldn't be specifically a cookie problem. It can be browser cache / dns cache. The fact that it's sporadic is really puzzling and makes me think it's neither. SNI errors are related to encryption/certs and it makes me think somehow you're going from a http page to a https page because I'm not automatically upgrading the connection to https on certain occasions. It can also happen when multiple domains are hosted off the same server but use the same cert, which I certainly do... https://gallery.blueridgedebate.com https://nextcloud.blueridgedebate.com, etc, etc.

I've made a few more changes that will probably need time to take effect.... cross fingers.
Happened again a little while ago, before you posted. This time it went to "Misdirected Request" twice before the correct url. Again, no biggie, it only delays me by a couple of seconds. Let me know if there's something that I should try. This does not happen when navigating any other sites.
I'm on to something new and may even be seeing it in the logs now. I made some more config changes.... we'll see....

By chance are you using a fairly old Mac?

I bet I can make the problem go away if you still have it and if I happen to be remotely right about the age.

2015? Recently refurbished and updated. How would that explain it not happening on other websites? Is there something unique about BRD? neoplacebo does have an ancient computer, PC I'm pretty sure.

Yeah, this Sony Vaio is from 2006 I think. But I've not had the "misdirected request" thing today. I think I got it once yesterday. But if I delete internet files and go back in, that always fixes it on this end.

2006?

That's quite ancient for a personal computer.

Bearing in mind I've been pilloried here for using video recording technology (DVD) dating back to about 2012. But then I've not complained about it, either. Nor am I pillorying you for using a 16 year old PC. It's just that the age of the system may be related to the problem(s) you may mention.

 You should see his stereo.

Whooosh. Ummm, that's a complaint, dummy. The only reason that you're "pilloried here" is because of your whiny complaints about it, over and over. No one really cares about what tech you use as long as it works for you, and as long as you aren't bragging about it. It's your consistently thin skin that makes you so very "special".

How do you guys keep those things running? Since 2006, I've probably gone through a desktop, 3-4 laptops, and a couple of tablets. And that's not counting Lady O's stuff. I've had hard drive crashes, fans go out, screens come loose, CD/DVD drives burn out, batteries die, and just generally get running badly or won't load new stuff. And part of the reason I had to get a new phone was because so many apps I needed wouldn't run on my old one - and it wasn't all that old, like four model years maybe.

Wella, back in the 90's I took some classes in computer electronics. I was also employed as an IT guy, building local area networks, servers, etc. Along with administration. Even ran my own company for a bit, then went back to school and learned how to set up, run, and program CNC equipment. So I don't have anything against old equipment, but they do have limitations that increase as time goes on.

Never seen a dial cellphone. That actually would be kinda cool.

Bearing in mind I sort of like antiques. I inherited my Mom's old singer treadle sewing machine (which I got for her back around 1972 as payment for helping someone clean out their garage). She actually used it to make stuff for years.

Oh, and I still have my first computer, a Leading Edge Model M, which had a gigantic 20 MB hard drive and ran DOS 2.1. Somewhere. Ha. The M stands for Mitsubishi, BTW.

This thing has its glitches but I don't use it for anything but email and reading news stories and posting on the forum. I have been working on an alternate operating system based on using 64 squirrel wheels connected in series. My problem is squirrel accumulation; I'm not able to corral that many squirrels and gather them all together. Hell, I've not even been able to acquire half the squirrel power I require before one of the "ready" squirrels ups and dies on me. I considered abandoning them and using turtles but realized this would drastically reduce computing speed.

Your penchant for stomping reptiles wouldn't help, either.

Anyhow, you must get with the program here. When people tease you about your tech you're supposed to get all defensive, explain your choices ad nauseam, then plaintively complain that you've not complained about it. Finally, you stew about it and wonder why no one ever takes you seriously.

I'm half surprised you didn't use cats as your alternate operating system. Although hard to herd they can be very motivated under the right circumstances.
