Actually it's some of our more conservative members that I'm trying to placate. (They've always been the ones interested in censorship rather than hitting the ignore button.) However, I do try to be unbiased and see both sides. I hate that we've lost a couple members that I actually had some respect for.

Word filters are too easily gotten around especially when it doesn't natively support regex, but having to make someone think about how to get around it before they type it may dissuade the usage.

I've always said, it's yall's forum, I just try to mediate. I just didn't realize doohickey would be such a doorknob.

I hate that members have abandoned the forum too. It's not so much the foul language that's freely being used, but the foul names that they were called because someone with differing opinions disagreed with them. There is one of your liberal members in particular that has a limited vocabulary that likens himself to what is found on a chicken house floor and/or a derogatory term for the sex act. A few more parrot him thinking they're being 'cool'.

If you haven't noticed, most of the foul cursings/ridiculings come from the liberal side of the fence; no small wonder you were trying to "placate" the conservatives who, BTW, weren't so much interested in complete censorship, as they were in just toning down the language and keeping the comments civil.

A couple of threads dealing with this subject were started, but the authors were quickly and heavily ridiculed and cursed.

I'm no angel, I try to stay civil, but I can be just as nasty as the next person. I came to this forum and was immediately accused of being someone else, a fraud, and a few other choice adjectives. I'm even losing interest in being here because I no longer have an interest in even attempting a civil discussion.

You lost some good members, some as you say you had respect for. I don't know of them all, but I can attest that most of them were far better than what you have remaining. You might even consider keeping the Russians, Poles, Romanians, etc. At least when they cuss you, you have no clue what they said.
