23 second Video

Article:
“Nice [expletive] ball! Nice [expletive] ball!,” Edelman yells at Brady on the sideline after the score, which gave the Patriots a 14-0 lead.

The two slap hands and Brady says, “Thanks, baby. Thanks, baby.”

As Edelman walks away, he turns back to Brady, his teammate for 11 years.

“You’re too [expletive] old! You’re too old!,” he shouts.

It’s certainly a unique way to be a hype man.

Yuck 😝
“At first I wanted a sinkhole to open up and swallow the entire Super Bowl,” said Butch Hearn, of Wentzville, Missouri, as he had lunch downtown Monday. “Then I thought about a mid-air collision. But I realized that was too extreme.”

He laughed. This is still the nice Midwest after all. No need for mass casualties.

“So now I am just rooting for both teams to get food poisoning,” Hearns said.

Right. Much more reasonable.

Betting on the national anthem: An American tradition

... At its heart, the anthem prop bet is a simple one: whether the anthem will last longer than the time a sports book pegs as the over/under point, usually in the neighborhood of 120 seconds. The Kentucky Derby’s the most exciting two minutes in sports, but the national anthem – as it creeps toward that over/under mark, with bettors all over the world obsessing over every elongated note – is a very close second....

Prop bets: A ‘losing proposition’ for sports books

... So why do sports books offer prop bets at all? Good PR.

“People love betting on props,” says David Mason, BetOnline.ag’s sports book brand manager. “The bet counts on props are our biggest. Betting on the coin toss is the American way.”

Note that Mason said bet counts, not bet amounts. Sports books limit their exposure on prop bets precisely because they’re so unpredictable. Fifty dollars a bet on the coin flip isn’t uncommon; $500 on a prop bet is generally the maximum. You’re not going to see someone getting to bet half a million dollars on the color of Gatorade to get dumped on the winning coach. (For the record, BetDSI has “clear/water” at 2/1 odds, “purple” as 10-1 odds.)

... If you look to the past as precedent, the shortest anthem since Super Bowl XL was Billy Joel at 90 seconds, while the longest was Alicia Keys at 155 seconds. Most top out just short of the two-minute mark....

It’s an inexact science. One sports book nearly got soaked a few years back when it set lines on the coin toss without realizing that the Patriots call heads every single time. And last year, Pink’s outfit caused controversy because oddsmakers initially couldn’t determine if she was wearing pants or a skirt for the purposes of payout on a costume prop bet....

Okay, I can't handle the Patriots sixth Super Bowl victory. Despite the above, I'm rooting for the Los Angeles Rams to get their first NFL championship ever (not counting the 2001 Super Bowl victory when the team was in St. Louis).

The Pats are favored by 2.5, pretty close. I have not placed any bets.

Really, America the Beautiful AND the anthem? Whatever, Gladys Knight's still got it at 74. I forgot to time it to see who won the over/under. ;)

Edit: Here it is -
Gladys Knight opens Super Bowl 53 with near-perfect national anthem performance
The Atlanta native and seven-time Grammy winner hit every note of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

... The over-under was set at 110 seconds by Bovada, an online gambling site. Knight's performance was close, lasting around 113 seconds....
The MLK, Jr. tribute, recorded and live, was a nice touch, NFL.

SB trivia and moments

All 5 Pats losses this season were to teams that did not make the playoffs.

1st quarter:
Announcer 1: “31 for 31, no FGs missed in the stadium during the season.”
Announcer 2: “Did you do it to them again?”
Seconds later: Gostkowski missed from 46.
Brady/Belichick have never scored a TD in the 1st quarter.
Brady sacked, 1st time in this year’s playoffs. It was the only Rams sack of the game. Great O-line and QB play.

Game:
Lowest scoring 3 quarters ever, 3-3.
The previous 8 Brady/Belichick SBs have been decided by 1 score or less, and 7 were won in the last 3 minutes. This one was a wide left FG try at the end from being #9.

:D This article doesn't agree with what the over-unders, even Bovada's, were, doesn't agree with the length of her singing, and says there's confusion over the latter:

Super Bowl LIII: Gladys Knight hits the over with excellent national anthem ... or does she?

Glad I didn't bet on it.

I don't understand how betting on the anthem works - seems it would be totally controllable by the singer, and she'd make it whatever way she and her friends bet. There's undoubtedly something about it I don't know.

That's discussed in the first article - $500 or so limit on the bets that can be placed thus reducing the chances of corruption, loss leader for the bookies because it's good PR. The potential winnings from this would be chump change to the wealthy performers that are invited, and there's the risk of permanently losing their legacy.

The first article was pretty far back in the thread and I didn't cite/quote it in subsequent posts. That said, there would be something perfect about an SB anthem corruption scandal.
