War on Women

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

The sheriff's office said he told hospital personnel that he will not stay on his medication when he walks out of the hospital and will "rape the first woman he sees" so he can go back to ADC. https://wpde.com/news/nation-world/sex- ... gBPdjJKWmQ
Any of you fellas have a spouse or a lady that you care for? You can't always be there to protect them, allowing them to take a firearm training class where they learn how to handle a firearm would be a plus. Being mentally ill is no excuse for harming women and children.

 "Allow" isn't a word you'd choose to use if you had a wonderfully independent spouse/Sig like Lady O.

Having said that, Lady O is competent with her firearm, but unless you go places where there is expected danger or you have some reason to expect somebody is out to get you, a much more usable weapon is spray (bear, pepper, even wasp killer) which she carries when she goes walking by herself. She also knows how to use a baton, and we both took training on using a cane as a defense weapon. Sure, anybody can be surprised, jumped from behind, no chance to defend. Even some heavily armed and trained cops have gone down by ambush. But you have to spend time and effort preparing for the most likely and attempting to avoid the unlikely.

Cool, it's good that she has training in self defense. What type of firearm does she carry?

She does have a concealed carry license, but doesn't actually "carry". Her favorite handgun is a .22mag snubnose. But we've got weapons in the coach, and a weapon in the car, so nobody is walking around packing a firearm. I'd hate to have to live in such constant fear that I found it necessary to carry a firearm down to the local grocery for a loaf of bread.

You have firearms in your vehicles, that's good.

Well, sometimes. If you live in a motorhome, you have to keep them somewhere, except when we're in Canada, when we store them in gun-ridden US.

Don't be so defensive about owning guns.

Not defensive at all. Just keeping context and perspective.

That's what happens when the childish 'nyah, nyah, nyah' urge matters more than comprehension and/or honesty.

Alyssa Milano Calls for ‘Sex Strike’ in Response to Georgia’s Anti-Abortion Law

My brother lives in Georgia. I wrote:
Sucks for you, (brother).

I think the person this will affect the most is Alyssa Milano’s husband.

Sometimes it is really hard to forget that we live in a red state. Sigh.
SiL wrote:
There's been a bit of backlash, with some pointing out to Ms. Milano that bargaining for our rights while withholding access to our bodies isn't exactly feminism. But you gotta respect the woman for trying something to draw attention to the situation.
Bit more serious replies than I was shooting for. :D

"What's happening: Pregnancy-related deaths are rising in the United States, and according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 60 percent of those deaths are preventable. The U.S. is the only developed country in the world in which maternal mortality rates are rising."

"We suck" is putting it mildly.

Childbirth has always been dangerous, and 1-year survival after birth used to be sketchy. Difference now is that most of what used to cause the danger can be avoided or prevented with proper care. But the cost of that care and the accessibility of it cuts out a lot of people who, because of different conditions, are often worse off than they would have been a hundred or so years ago when people knew something about home births.

My mom had three sisters and two brothers and one infant brother that died shortly after being born. Her mother was born in 1898 and died in 1983. I died at birth and was resurrected after being taken to a Guatemalan bush doctor; the bill was $8.53
