Yes - but it's not on for another hour here. No spoilers, please.
I like it, although I've read complaints about all the twists. I think that's a good idea, though. The show has been on for 20 years and most who go on the show have a pretty good idea of how to play. Make all those tactics obsolete and you've got a new game. Not sure about the shortened time, though.

I'm ok with the 26 days they're getting some good results with the faster pace but some of the twists are shark jumping. The three tiered idol thing blows.
They've got a good cast this season and they're being overshadowed. To me it's generally been the people that are compelling. Hope they'll just let them play.
Even former players are having a hard time figuring it out.
Tonight's episode was good.
Make Survivor Great Again!
Eamus Catuli~AC 000000000101010202020303010304 020405....Ahhhh, forget it, it's gonna be a while.
Gosh, haven't watched Survivor in years. Is it still a thing?
It is, indeed. This years cast is mostly smart people who know a lot about the game. Most of the competitions have been tough, they don't feed them "free" rice anymore and everything has to be earned - and can also be lost. It's a rough world for the players, and they're also subject to some surprises that have never been in play before. If you ever liked it, you probably still would. If you didn't, well, even antique TVs have at least two more stations.

Well, I can't say I was ever a big fan of Survivor. I remember watching it a bit about 20 years ago. Like most such things I thought it was artificial and staged.
Oh, and the TV in my living room is about a year old. Flat panel Samsung, 55". It gets way more than three stations, although I generally only watch PBS and DVD's on it. It may be an idiot box but I try to minimize the idiocy.

Well, it's edited, of course, but not staged. Real competitions, real hungry people losing real weight and getting bit by real bugs.
And no, I didn't really think you had an antique TV, but I wouldn't have been surprised if you said you did

I suspect that the interpersonal conflicts and alliances, and thus the votes, are manipulated by the producers for ratings value, just like on every other "reality" show.
A cynic might suggest that extra food is provided for some on the down low, but I won't go that far.

And real physical ailments upon returning for quite a few players.

Nope, nope and nope.
With over twenty years and over seperate contestants ( not counting returnees) I think things such as that may have gotten out by now.

What is the most ridiculous thing you (or your crew) has ever video taped, but was never showcased on TV?

I was late to the party. I was flipping and bored one night in 2012 and started watching and got hooked. Think I've gone back and watched most of the seasons, they're available Amazon and Hulu.

Well, thanks, but I'd hate to ruin a perfect record. A lot of my "entertainment" is getting loaded up on beer and pot and listening to records or compact discs of records. Most of the people who do this are the type you see sitting in rocking chairs on porches in broad daylight. I'm not that kind but give them due regard.

Whatever works for ya , a fun Friday or Saturday night for me might include a little rocking chair on porch action.

Any show that has 39 days of activity getting condensed down to 9-10 hours of TV is bound to have some production influence. And some players have indeed complained that "their edit" was not what they would have liked to see. But they're giving away a million dollar winners prize, and not in the 20 years of production have they had any cheating scandals. What they do, however, is try not to get anybody seriously injured or seriously ill. They have crew members go through the competitions first to make sure they can be done reasonably safely. They give them a lot more time to prepare or learn the instructions than is shown during the TV time. They let them bring necessary medications, feminine hygiene supplies, etc. They're probably not going to let anybody get totally dehydrated or get too close to starvation. But yeah, most of what you see is much more real than not, as has been told many times over the years by show winners, also-rans, and losers.

Accepted. What I posted was not as absolutist as what Useless posted. All it takes is tweaks at the margins. That said, he is correct about some of the "reality" shows, as has been exposed by many in the know.

Jimmy Johnson (the football coach) competed and actually credits Survivor for possibly saving his life. IIRC, he had blocked arteries that was diagnosed by Survivor and had surgery.
Johnson was one of 20 castaways competing in Survivor: Nicaragua, the 21st edition of Survivor, in late 2010. He is a long-time fan of the show, and had been cast for Survivor: Gabon, which was the 17th edition of the show, but had to withdraw after failing a physical.[16] Johnson, the oldest contestant of the season, was part of the Espada tribe, made up entirely of people aged 40 and older.[17] He was voted out 8–1 on Day Eight of the competition, becoming the third person voted out of the game and finishing 18th overall. As he left the game, he said to his tribe, "One of you, win your million bucks, okay?" He also said, "I had fun, but I was miserable the whole time. I still love the game, it's been a great adventure, but this is the most stressful time I've ever gone through in my life. And that includes Super Bowls and collegiate national championships. I initially said, 'Keep your strongest members.' I obviously wasn't one of them."[18] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_J ... )#Survivor

The term "reality" show started with stuff like MTV's "Real World" and morphed into Kardashians, "Real Housewives", Honey BooBoo, Duck people, Osbournes, etc. Lots of unreality there. "Survivor" is more of a competition show and probably shouldn't be glomped in with "reality." Same for "Big Brother", the former "Fear Factor", and even "American Ninja Warrior." In ANW, they like to show backstories, competitors who overcame adversity or whatever, and the actual broadcast isn't live so the may arrange the players in a more dramatic order, but bottom line, those are some fantastic real athletes in a real competition.
