Iran War

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

US fires on Iranian oil tanker as Trump pressures Tehran for deal to end war

https://apnews.com/article/iran-us-isra ... 88d94d08f3
The White House believes it is near an agreement with Iran on a one-page memorandum to end the war, according to reporting by Axios. There is no deal yet, but provisions include a moratorium on Iranian uranium enrichment, lifting of U.S. sanctions, distribution of frozen Iranian funds and opening the strait for ships.
This sounds pretty damn close to exactly what the Obama admin had negotiated lmao. Absolute incompetent fools running the United States right now. The death throes of a superpower.

It's pretty much Obama's deal with the added twist of the Straits TBD, but I'm guessing Iran is just stringing DonOld along.....because they know he's desperate and mid terms are looming.

Kind of ironic that DonOld may have made them the most important player in November.

I never was in an 8-cylinder Triumph, but I'm not so sure it would be all that great. When they stuffed an Austin Healey 6 into an MG-B and called it an MGC, it was awful. Too much front weight, wouldn't corner, poorly balanced. Sometimes just because you can doesn't mean you should.
You may be right about that; reminds me of the Mustang II. I'd seen that TR-8 several times sitting in one of the buildings. I thought it looked sort of weird....like a giant wedge type door stop. I don't know if it was the suspension or some actual curvature of the frame toward the rear, but the thing looked kind of awkward. As far as I know, they didn't make them very long. It is probably worth something as a novelty; like a DeLorean but who knows. That one was the only one I ever saw.

edit: just searched his name; no obituary.
billie.pilgrim chose to not have an obituary. That made our sleuthing more difficult.
I remember it was hard to figure out at the time. Maybe he was hoping to keep his name on the FL voter rolls.

Iran imposes new rules for Strait of Hormuz in bid to secure wartime gains

https://www.cnn.com/2026/05/07/middleea ... gains-intl
Iran is trying to force shippers to comply with a new protocol for transiting the Strait of Hormuz – or risk attack.

Tehran has laid out a set of new rules for vessels seeking to transit the Strait of Hormuz, according to a document seen by CNN, pressing ahead with efforts to formalize control over the waterway in defiance of US warnings.

Entitled “Vessel Information Declaration,” the document is an application form issued by Iran’s newly created Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) and must be completed by all transiting vessels to ensure safe passage. It was shared with CNN by Lloyds List and another shipping industry source who wished to remain anonymous.

...

Before the US and Israeli campaign against Iran began at the end of February, the strait was free for any vessel of any origin to navigate.

...

The move to set up an authority for the strait underscores Iran’s determination to cement control over what it sees as a spoil of war, despite repeated US and regional warnings. Dominance of the waterway – through which one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas flows – would hand the Islamic Republic immense leverage over its neighbors and the global economy.
If the US acquiesces to this then it's pretty clear that they've lost. What a mess. The United State's very own Suez Crisis. Add that to the heap of humiliations we've caused ourselves over the last year or so.

I suspect a forum member whose name starts with "s" would say massive humiliation is a small price to pay for Iran not to have a nuclear weapon.......never mind that it cost nothing before the end of February, they didn't have a bomb, and free trade was a thing.

First it was a war that wasn't a war.

Now it's not a war that is a war. :o :headscratch:

I do not disagree that Trump may have encountered a "tar baby" with this war. So the question will evolve into whether the military miscalculated the tenacity of Iran or if Trump ignored the military in an accurate assessment of the engagement.

I think it's likely the latter. Trump has a well documented tendency of basing decisions off of his "gut feelings". There was an in depth NY Times piece about the run up to the decision to attack Iran. Ultimately the decision was left up to Trump who made the decision not based on facts, but feelings, as they say.

Your thoughts have merit based on Trump's personality.
