Say it loud!

SENATE MAJORITY LEADER CHUCK SCHUMER!
Yeah, and Senate MINORITY Leader Moscow Mitch!
Worthless toad.
Some rain on the parade - It may appear that Schumer is in charge, but the real Senate Majority Leader will be Joe Manchin, D(INO)-WV.
Semi-worthless toad.
That said, far better than no parade at all.
Joe Biden might be in the White House, but Joe Manchin runs the presidency

There's an Rx for progressives suggested in the article, but it has pitfalls.
On Survivor, the all too powerful "swing vote " is usually the one voted off the island.

Too bad this is not an option.

How false 'Italygate' claims made their way to the top

Late last December, as President Donald Trump pressed senior officials to find proof of election fraud, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows emailed acting attorney general Jeffrey Rosen a letter detailing an outlandish theory of how an Italian defense contractor had conspired with U.S. intelligence to rig the 2020 presidential contest.

The letter, which was among records released by Congress this past week, was printed under the letterhead of USAerospace Partners, a little-known Virginia aviation company. In early January, a second Virginia firm, the Institute for Good Governance, and a partner organization released a statement from an Italian attorney who claimed that a hacker had admitted involvement in the supposed conspiracy theory.

According to the conspiracy theory known as "Italygate," people working for the Italian defense contractor, in coordination with senior CIA officials, used military satellites to switch votes from Trump to Joe Biden and swing the result of the election....

Wasn't me. If it had been, Trump wouldn't have won any states and more Dem senators/governors/congress critters would have won.

GOP-led Michigan committee finds no evidence of election fraud

A Republican-controlled Michigan state Senate committee published a report Wednesday affirming that there was no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 election and further, it's calling on the state attorney general to consider investigating some people who have pushed false claims about the election "to raise money or publicity for their own ends."

... "This Committee found no evidence of widespread or systematic fraud in Michigan's prosecution of the 2020 election," the report said. "Our clear finding is that citizens should be confident the results represent the true results of the ballots cast by the people of Michigan. The Committee strongly recommends citizens use a critical eye and ear toward those who have pushed demonstrably false theories for their own personal gain."

President Biden won Michigan by 154,000 votes in November, a margin that was more than 14 times greater than former President Trump's margin of victory in 2016. In the days, weeks and months that followed the 2020 election, Mr. Trump and some of his supporters pushed unsubstantiated theories about widespread fraud. The claims continued even after the bipartisan state board of canvassers certified the results....

Seems there's always been a failsafe:
'Reichstag moment': Joint Chiefs chairman feared Trump was laying groundwork for coup

... The top brass was so disturbed by Trump's rhetoric casting doubt on the legitimacy of the election before it was held that the leaders discussed contingency plans for how to thwart any illegal power grabs by the president, including how and when to resign in protest over his actions.

"They may try, but they're not going to f****** succeed," Milley told his officers, according to Leonnig and Rucker. "You can't do this without the military. You can't do this without the CIA and the FBI. We're the guys with the guns." ...
Pelosi feared Trump might use nuclear weapons in his last days in office, and asked a top general how stop it, book says

... She told the general that she was deeply concerned that a "crazy," "dangerous" and "maniac" Trump might try and use nuclear weapons in his last days in office, the book said.

"Ma'am, I guarantee you these processes are very good," Milley reassured her, said the authors. "There's not going to be an accidental firing of nuclear weapons."

"How can you guarantee me?" Pelosi is said to have asked.

"Ma'am, there's a process," he said, per the book. "We will only follow legal orders. We'll only do things that are legal, ethical, and moral." ...
Maybe this 'deep state' thing ain't all bad.

Considering how loony the GQP has become during the past five years and how loony it is now, just think how loony they'll be by next years mid term elections. And by 2024 they'll be more reprehensible and vile than anything previously seen by man or beast. That Babbitt woman will by then have a sort of "Horst Wessel" song written about her and she'll be the darling of the trump fascists. Shit, I remember when Sarah Palin was the craziest GOP loony. We've come a LONG way.

None of them have the mass appeal of the Horst-Wessel-Lied. They have some recordings of Babbitt spliced in, but otherwise no lyrics and their music is kinda Paul Winter new age-y.

How about the old "I Fought the Law and the Law Won" by I forget who. Or maybe the Animals "We Gotta Get Out of This Place."
A less violent example:
Federal judge sanctions lawyers who brought conspiracy theory-filled lawsuit trying to overturn the 2020 election, reap $160 billion in damages

A federal judge in Colorado has sanctioned attorneys who brought a lawsuit that challenged the results of the 2020 presidential election and sought $160 billion in damages, calling their conspiratorial claims "the stuff of which violent insurrections are made."

The Wednesday ruling from US Magistrate Judge N. Reid Neureiter concludes that the lawsuit "was filed in bad faith" and orders the attorneys, Ernest J. Walker and Gary D. Fielder, to pay the opposing lawyers' expenses and fees. The order does not bar them from practicing law.

"This lawsuit was filed with a woeful lack of investigation into the law and (under the circumstances) the facts," Neureiter wrote. "The lawsuit put into or repeated into the public record highly inflammatory and damaging allegations that could have put individuals' safety in danger. Doing so without a valid legal basis or serious independent personal investigation into the facts was the height of recklessness."

... Neureiter's ruling criticized the attorneys in scathing terms for purporting to "represent 160 million American registered voters," seeking to nullify "actions of multiple state legislatures, municipalities, and state courts," and then demand a "nominal amount of $1,000 per registered voter" in damages, which would amount to "a figure is greater than the annual GDP of Hungary."

"In short, this was no slip-and-fall at the local grocery store," Neureiter wrote. "Albeit disorganized and fantastical, the Complaint's allegations are extraordinarily serious and, if accepted as true by large numbers of people, are the stuff of which violent insurrections are made."

The lawyers' 'massive cut-and-paste job' recycled claims from other failed lawsuits

The judge noted that sanctions were warranted because the attorneys did not bring the lawsuit based on the claims of the people they represented.

"It must also be noted that this was not a client-driven lawsuit. As Plaintiffs' counsel, Mr. Fielder, conceded at the July 16 hearing, the lawsuit was his idea," Neureiter wrote. "Mr. Fielder and Mr. Walker were not relying on information from the named Plaintiffs to construct the suit or for any of the substantive factual allegations."

Neureiter said Walker and Fielder acted improperly by failing to research any factual basis for their claims that the 2020 election results were rigged, and by bringing a claim in Colorado against state officials in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Wisconsin.

Neureiter also criticized the lawyers' "massive cut-and-paste job." They recycled claims in their lawsuit from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Trump-affiliated lawyer Sidney Powell, both of whom failed in their own lawsuits challenging the election results.

The judge also criticized them for uncritically including a false Trump tweet about "Dominion deleting 2.7 million trump votes nationwide." Neureiter wrote that when asked in a hearing about including the claim, Fielder's only justification was that Trump was the president.

"Under the circumstances of this case, with this election, with this insurrection, with the on-going threats to election officials and company employees, including in a federal filing as if it were true such an inflammatory and damaging allegation, without any attempt at verification, merely because the out-going President had said it, was reckless and did not represent a reasonable inquiry under the circumstances," Neureiter wrote.

So somebody has probably thought of/brought up this, but I just realized how totally stupid the ballot-challenging really has been. Because they're only challenging counties that (1) they knew were blue or mostly blue to start with; ( 2) they went blue in 2016; (3) they were predicted to be blue in 2020; and (4) Trump had a decent showing, losing by less than expected. And these are the places they want to challenge and accuse of fraud? F'rinstance, Fulton and DeKalb counties went massively for Hillary in 2016. There was no chance whatsoever in any version of hell that Trump was going to take those counties. And yet, those are where trumpsters chose to claim foul?
Idiots.

Judge allows Dominion defamation suits against Giuliani, Sidney Powell, and MyPillow's Mike Lindell

A federal judge in Washington ruled Wednesday that Dominion Voting Systems can proceed with three billion-dollar defamation lawsuits against former Trump campaign lawyers Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani and MyPillow founder Mike Lindell, all of whom accused Dominion of rigging the 2020 election against former President Donald Trump. U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols rejected the three defendants' motions to dismiss Dominion's suits, writing that Powell and Lindell in particular made claims about the voting machine company "knowing that they were false or with reckless disregard for the truth."

The separate arguments from Powell, Lindell, and Giuliani "found little resonance with Nichols, a Trump appointee who seemed disdainful of their conduct and of suggestions that their statements were within the bounds of freewheeling political debate," Politico reports. "The ruling is far from the final word on the cases, which are several in a series of suits Dominion has filed against its critics and the news outlets that gave them prominent platforms. However, the decision was something of a rout for the Trump allies."
ICYMI: "a Trump appointee" :---P
... As for Lindell's accusations, Nichols wrote, "a reasonable juror could conclude that the existence of a vast international conspiracy that is ignored by the government but proven by a spreadsheet on an internet blog is so inherently improbable that only a reckless man would believe it." ...
My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell fled the stage at his cyber symposium at the same time news broke that Dominion's billion-dollar defamation lawsuit against him would proceed

... Lindell is currently hosting a marathon 72-hour cyber symposium in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, from August 10 to August 12 in a bid to prove his election conspiracy theories.

After news that his attempt to have the lawsuit dismissed came out at around 6 p.m. on August 11, Lindell was seen on video getting off his seat and rushing off-stage abruptly, disappearing behind a dark curtain.

At press time, Lindell had not returned to the stage, and the live stream of the cyber symposium was replaced by a video reel showing news articles touting voter fraud claims next to an image of Lindell hugging a pillow.

Image

Lindell told attendees on August 11 that he intended to stay on stage for three days straight.

"We're not going on a break," Lindell said. "You guys can go eat. That's fine, but I ain't eating! I'm staying up here for 72 hours."
