In an apparent case of fact resulting from fiction, the traditional "Indian" drum rhythm (BOOM boom boom boom) wasn't originated by Indians. However, I've been to powwows with real Indians in authentic costumes doing (allegedly) authentic dances and using that beat.

Not exactly the same beat, and not exactly the same chant, but here's some Cherokees with a similar sound. You can see why people might think the FSU chant is "authentic-ish", mistaken though they may be.

Perhaps the various Indian nations should copyright their chants and music and then charge through the yazoo to license them for public events.

Or not.

It's shameful that these key aspects of a culture the now dominant force in America has chosen to mis-appropriate for reasons that have little to nothing to do with their original purpose(s).
