Yeah, cheese doesn't go with everything. Here's my list of things that don't go with cheese:

Oh, and Bleu and Limberger don't count as cheese. They're both devil's concoctions designed to keep rabid raccoons out of your garbage.

Oh, yeah, ice cream or whipped cream with pie is PIE. I often buy apple pie and put it in the refrigerator; like to have it cold. Cheese don't work with that.O Really wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 11:21 amCan't help it if you have no taste, m'man, but although this pie would have been great with no topping, there were other choices. you like ice cream?neoplacebo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 8:10 amI have always had an aversion to cheese on pie. Asheville is Yelp's No. 1 food destination in the US, beating out Charleston, South Carolina; Portland, Oregon; and New Orleans.O Really wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2020 10:06 pmYo billy.p - do you know this place? Mr. Pollo in Pensacola.

It's rated #61 on Yelp's best 100 places to eat.
To determine Yelp’s Top Places to Eat in 2020, Yelp’s data science team pulled the top restaurants by ratings and number of reviews in 2019 across the U.S., with representation based on each place’s share of top-rated restaurants nationally, then curated the list with the expertise of our Community Managers around the country to finalize the rankings. The result is a list as quirky, interesting and unique as the Yelp Community itself.
#1 is a San Diego food truck where we got the house specialty chicken shawarma a couple of weeks ago. It was really good, but we had no idea we were eating at the top place in the country. Glad we went when we did - probably won't be able to get near the place for a while. https://www.yelp.com/biz/shawarma-guys-san-diego
Only WNC place on the list was Sunny Point Cafe in Asheville, #91.

Excellent food tonight from a hole-in-the-wall Poke place. Salmon/tuna with the works. And tuna sushi rolls from fish so fresh they sliced it off and rolled it while you wait.

Nothing better than fresh tuna.

Re: The Food Thread
Non-toxic food packaging needed now![]()
The packaging for our food should be free of toxic chemicals--that’s just common sense. So we were pleased to see Taco Bell take action right after its parent company, Yum! Brands, earned an F in our 4th annual retailer report card. Taco Bell announced it’s removing PFAS, phthalates and BPA from its consumer-facing packaging by 2025. This is a big deal -- the company was the first major U.S. fast-food chain to make a public commitment like this!
Even if you don’t eat at Taco Bell, it’s possible their packaging could affect your health. The items discarded by Taco Bell and its customers can contaminate the groundwater under landfills, which could become your drinking water.
Will you help us thank Taco Bell for taking this step and ask them to go even further and faster? If the company is going to lead the industry, they should do it faster and should adopt a more comprehensive chemicals policy.

Re: The Food Thread
A week or so ago I posted about a book I read "Exposure" I think it was (that was three books ago) about the corporate attorney who fought twenty years in a battle he eventually won against DuPont regarding PFOA and PFOS chemicals; food wrappers, specifically pizza boxes, was brought up as just one more example of how prevalent these chemicals are. The main use for them is in making Teflon. They've recently been classified as "forever chemicals" because of their tendency to not break down. Do you have a "Food 4 Less" store nearby? If they don't have them, they may be gone.

We enjoy eating salmon - along with most other kinds of fish. My favorite and usual way to cook it is to grill it, seasoned with olive oil, black pepper, and Paul Prudhomme's "Salmon Seasoning." It's really good, but I do tend to get in a rut with something I like a lot. If anybody has favourite ways to prepare salmon (or tuna, or halibut, or whatever) I'd like to hear it.

Re: The Food Thread
I don't cook fish very often at all but if I do, this is how I do it; I will get either cod fillet or orange roughy fillet and put the fish in a bowl with an egg that I've beaten up as if to make scrambled eggs. I coat the fish with the egg and then lay the fillet onto a plate of seafood seasoning and turn it so both sides get coated with what I've taken to calling "fish powder." Once they're uniformly coated with a fine layer of fish powder, I fry the fish in oil until done and then eat it with a lemon squeeze.O Really wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 9:31 pmWe enjoy eating salmon - along with most other kinds of fish.
