Looks like the taskforce is being disbanded after all. Three of its members, including Fauci are going into self quarantine.

Hello, Peter Ludlow here, CEO of InGen, the company behind the wildly successful dinosaur-themed amusement park, Jurassic Park. As you’re all aware, after an unprecedented storm hit the park, we lost power and the velociraptors escaped their enclosure and killed hundreds of park visitors, prompting a two-month shutdown of the park. Well, I’m pleased to announce that, even though the velociraptors are still on the loose, we will be opening Jurassic Park back up to the public!

Thanks... And speaking of injuries, I want to take a moment to thank our Jurassic Park EMTs. They’re the real heroes here, am I right? In the process of responding to velociraptor attacks, many of our EMTs get mauled and dismembered by velociraptors themselves. That’s why, as a sign of appreciation, we will be repainting the Jurassic Park ambulance with the words “Hero Mobile” in big bubble letters. We think this is a far more meaningful token of gratitude than the salary increase they requested....

Speaking of dangerous jobs,
Why some nurses have quit during the coronavirus pandemic
I honestly don't know what I would have done if I was still working. Danger has never been a huge deterrent in my life, and ER work was an honor and a duty. It would have been difficult to ditch my coworkers. Otoh, I hate wearing full PPE, it's a terrible way to die, and I would have advised someone of my age and with my moderate risk factors to quit.
I'm glad that I'm already retired.

I was thinking the other day that the trumpian response to the virus outbreak is kind of like a scene I remember from a Cheech and Chong movie where they are driving down the road and Chong picks up this bag of white powder and takes a big snort just before Cheech yells out "man, don't snort that; that's soap." Then Chong is choked up after snorting the soap powder and picks up a jar of liquid and takes a big drink of it just before Cheech shouts out "don't drink that, man. That's pee." And here we are.

Re: Coronavirus
Here we go. It's like a boxing match where Round 2 begins before Round 1 is complete.Coronavirus update: New outbreaks reported in states that plan to reopen soon as Trump says testing ‘overrated'
The U.S. death toll from the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 rose above 86,000 on Friday, as new outbreaks were reported in states where stay-at-home orders are set to expire and others that never imposed them.
Minnesota is due to lift lockdown measures in mid-May even as cases continue to climb. Iowa, which did not implement restrictions on movement, recorded another 386 cases on Thursday, and its infection curve is not flattening, according to a New York Times tracker. Nebraska has seen cases more than double since April 30, while major cities such as Los Angeles and Chicago are still suffering from high death tolls.
Health officials, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious-disease expert, continue to caution that moving too quickly to reopen plants, offices and shops could cause unnecessary deaths and suffering — and also disrupt any economic recovery. Fauci and others have consistently warned that reopening should be conducted using testing and contact tracing to avoid a second wave of infections that is worse than the first.
Imagine that.President Donald Trump said late Thursday that testing is “overrated.”
“We have more cases than anybody in the world, but why? Because we do more testing,” Trump said in comments to workers at an Owens & Minor Inc. US:OMI medical-supply plant in Allentown, Pa. “When you test, you have a case. When you test, you find something is wrong with people. If we didn’t do any testing, we would have very few cases. They [the media] don’t want to write that. It’s common sense. We test much more.”
... the U.S. has lagged in testing when measured on a per capita basis, and is far behind such countries as South Korea and Germany that have successfully contained their infection rates. More than 30 countries rank higher than the U.S. in terms of per capita testing, according to Worldometers.info.
Wait, clicking our heels and wishing really hard won't be enough? Crap.“The [Trump administration] is obsessed with magic bullets — vaccines, new medicines, or a hope that the virus will simply disappear,” medical journal the Lancet wrote on Friday. “But only a steadfast reliance on basic public health principles, like test, trace, and isolate, will see the emergency brought to an end, and this requires an effective national public health agency,” it said in an article on how the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control has been sidelined and had its reputation battered during the pandemic....

Wait - Trump's got the answer! No testing, no covid. OK, why not stop testing for cancer? If you don't know it's there, it's not there, right? Who knew Ostrich Theory could cure all ills?

US and UK 'lead push against global patent pool for Covid-19 drugs'
Efforts to dilute world health assembly resolution on open licensing decried as ‘appalling’
Ministers and officials from every nation will meet via video link on Monday for the annual world health assembly, which is expected to be dominated by efforts to stop rich countries monopolising drugs and future vaccines against Covid-19.
As some countries buy up drugs thought to be useful against the coronavirus, causing global shortages, and the Trump administration does deals with vaccine companies to supply America first, there is dismay among public health experts and campaigners who believe it is vital to pull together to end the pandemic.
While the US and China face off, the EU has taken the lead. The leaders of Italy, France, Germany and Norway, together with the European commission and council, called earlier this month for any innovative tools, therapeutics or vaccines to be shared equally and fairly.
“If we can develop a vaccine that is produced by the world, for the whole world, this will be a unique global public good of the 21st century,” they said in a statement.
The sole resolution before the assembly this year is an EU proposal for a voluntary patent pool. Drug and vaccine companies would then be under pressure to give up the monopoly that patents allow them on their inventions, which means they can charge high prices, so that all countries can make or buy affordable versions.
In the weeks of negotiations leading up to the meeting, which is scheduled to last for less than a day, there has been a dispute over the language of the resolution. Countries with major pharmaceutical companies argue they need patents to guarantee sufficiently high prices in wealthy nations to recoup their research and development costs.
Even more fraught have been attempts to reinforce countries’ existing rights to break drug and vaccine company patent monopolies if they need to for the sake of public health....
