Bill Cosby charged with felony sexual assault in Pennsylvania
I think he's a rapist but it would take very compelling evidence beyond 'she said/he said' for me to vote to convict him of a particular rape 12 years after the fact.

Keep in mind that she went to the police at the time. It's not a case of someone coming forward 12 years after the fact.Vrede too wrote:I think he's a rapist but it would take very compelling evidence beyond 'she said/he said' for me to vote to convict him of a particular rape 12 years after the fact.
In 2005 district attorney's office declined to charge Cosby. So she filed a civil claim in March 2005, with 13 women as potential witnesses if the case went to court. Cosby settled out of court
It's the DA who changed his mind recently, when prosecutors re-opened the case after dozens of other women came forward with similar accusations .

"There wasn't any physical evidence for the case because Constand waited a year before going to police."
But, I didn't read the first article as closely as I should have, thanks. "Beyond a reasonable doubt" still may be a long shot if there was scant evidence then besides her "three (voluntary) blue pills" version. I don't know if the judge will allow any mention of the other victims and you can bet the defense will harp on the prosecution thinking the case was weak before.

If he's proven guilty, hang him high. But I bet this DA, as so often happens, is about to run for higher office.
People are crazy and times are strange. I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range.

Could be, but it's occurred to me that maybe it's felt that Cosby is so heinous that he should be charged at least once even if the odds of conviction are low. If so, I'm kinda okay with that.

Hung jury, mistrial, new trial promised. I didn't follow it closely, but I'm sure that he's guilty as sin. That said, sounds like it was mostly he said - she said. I might have also been unable to convict 'beyond a reasonable doubt'.

Re: BILL COSBY?!?....say it ain't so!!!
Lot more than he/she said, and I doubt anybody on the jury, in the courtroom, or in the country doubts he's a sleazeball who took advantage of women in an altered state. Problem is, a lot of these women said they had been happily hanging out with him, had been to his house or his hotel, and some kept on being friendly after the assaults. So if his defense is that he "gave them something to relax" but that his activity was consensual, it gets harder to refute that. Nobody made much of an issue concurrent with the assault. Understandable that they would think, "who they gonna believe, me or the 'great Bill Cosby'" but if one had done so - possibly others would have come forward before it was too late. It doesn't really matter if he's convicted of anything, though - his life work is trash, his legacy will be that of a pervert, and his reputation built over many years is dirt. He's what - 79 - poor health, his life is pretty much over.

Plus any time someone uses the phrase "the proof is in the pudding", Bill Cosby has a panic attack.
