I'd try the poke salad. Best selling point you had was "tastes more like spinach..." If it tasted like wild onions, not so much.

True. But still, mikey wouldn't have shown approval for just anything and why do some people remember it as "he'll eat anything"?Vrede too wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 12:31 pmThat wouldn't make sense. Could be the mushrooms talking.

Dinner tonight was a fish I'd never had before - Opah. https://www.chefs-resources.com/seafood ... opah-fish/
Delicious - we served with risotto made with mushrooms and parm cheese, and fresh broccoli. Fish was a bit pricey, up there about with halibut and decent tuna, but light taste, good texture. Cooks like a tuna steak, but is less dense. Get it if you can.

I see on the fishing forums that they are caught here, but I have never seen it for sale.
I'll look for it.

First decent loquat picking today. The birds, possums and squirrels gets most of them, but I get all that I want.

I don't think I ever had a loquat.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Tue Mar 24, 2020 6:49 pmFirst decent loquat picking today. The birds, possums and squirrels gets most of them, but I get all that I want.
Sounds good, though.
"Fresh from the tree, the loquat is juicy, sweet, and bursting with juice and flavor. ... The flavor is a pleasant blend of apricot, plum and cherry with floral overtones, and is quite sweet when ripe. If you like peaches, apricots and plums, you'll love loquats."

I'm told it's similar to a kumquat but I've never had a kumquat.
Next up in picking found fruits and veggies - the jelly palm. Last year the damn squirrels ate all the fruit before it ripened - so no jelly. I think I have a fix this year.
Whack is eating things he finds under his deck and Ulysses is talking about paw paws, but I doubt he's ever had one. If you can beat the possums to them, paw paws are absolutely wonderful. Kinda like a weird tropical mango banana flavor and texture. The woods in Tennessee are full of them.

I ordered some oyster mushroom plugs today. Underneath my deck is the perfect spot to grow them. Gonna drill some holes in the oak logs I have and pop them bad boys under my deck to grow. Should produce for a few years from what ive been reading.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 9:58 amO Really wrote: ↑Tue Mar 24, 2020 7:28 pmI don't think I ever had a loquat.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Tue Mar 24, 2020 6:49 pmFirst decent loquat picking today. None of that bothers me. If I'm shopping for a dinner party or have a need list, that ain't the place. If I just need "stuff" it's a fave.O Really wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2020 10:25 pm"The Real Reason Everything at ALDI is Cheap" (16 reasons)

Re: The Food Thread
Why is this such a thing for you? We talked it out more than any grocery is worth discussing and agreed that we have different tastes and needs. The Co-op is my primary store, anyhow, and I'm not trying to push bargain outlet ALDI on anyone. For all I know every local is doing the same shop and deliver for a competitive price. You seem to be on a mission to create a debate about something that I really don't care much about, though. Did the cart not give you back your quarter?O Really wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2020 10:25 pm"The Real Reason Everything at ALDI is Cheap" (16 reasons)

6 shot at California party with reportedly 400 attendeesBAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) — A shooting broke out at a party in central California, sending six people to the hospital on Saturday and launching a search for four suspects, authorities said.
The party, happening amid statewide stay-at-home orders intended to slow the spread of the coronavirus, may have gone unnoticed until frantic witnesses called 911 shortly after midnight from an apartment complex in Bakersfield, Kern County Sheriff's Lt. Cesa Ollague said.
“Unfortunately it came to a bad end,” he said.
Deputies who responded to the scene said the party was large, Ollague said, but he didn't know exactly how many people were in attendance. Local TV station KGET reports there were around 400 people in attendance.
I'm having some trouble with the part about 400 people partying at an apartment complex going unnoticed.

I took that to mean unnoticed by the cops - not necessarily by the neighbors. But still makes you wonder what Bakersfield patrol cops do.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 7:38 am
