Re: COVIDiots
I might quibble over "Tragically".These 6 red and blue states tell you everything you need to know about where Delta is hitting hardest — and why
... Glance at any state-by-state list of COVID data and the pattern becomes clear. Just three of the 25 states with the lowest vaccination rates voted for Biden; just three of the 25 states with the highest vaccination rates voted for Trump. By the same token, just 1 of the 10 states with the highest hospitalization rates (Nevada) voted for Biden — and just 1 of the 10 states with the lowest hospitalization rates (South Dakota) voted for Trump.
When you put it all together, the big picture is as striking as it is unsettling. According to Yahoo’s analysis, the average full-vaccination rate across states that voted for Biden was 54.4 percent as of Monday morning. The average full-vaccination rate across states that voted for Trump was far lower: just 41.7 percent.
In turn, these undervaccinated red states are now bearing the brunt of Delta’s impact. Across the Biden states, today’s average hospitalization rate is just 6 people for every 100,000 residents. Across the Trump states, that same rate is now nearly twice as high: 11.2 per 100,000.
Tragically, this gap will probably only widen in the weeks ahead. Over the last 14 days, blue-state hospitalizations have grown at an average rate of 24.4 percent. Meanwhile, red-state hospitalizations have grown at an average rate of 60 percent — more than twice as fast.
It's happening:(individual states get lauded or picked apart, FL featured)
While a roughly equal share of Trump voters (58 percent), Latino adults (57 percent) and Black adults (55 percent) say they have been at least partially vaccinated, according to a Yahoo News/YouGov survey conducted earlier this month, hesitancy is actually much higher among Trump voters than any other group.
Just 7 percent of unvaccinated Trump voters, for instance, said they planned to get vaccinated in the future — far lower than the share of unvaccinated Black adults (26 percent) or unvaccinated Latino adults (29 percent) who said the same.
Similarly, more than two-thirds of unvaccinated Trump voters (68 percent) said they would “never” get vaccinated, while less than half of unvaccinated Black adults (41 percent) or unvaccinated Latino adults (28 percent) expressed the same level of hard-core resistance.
Idk if WNC qualifies. I will heed guidance from state and local govt, and requests from businesses, but I may not be happy about it.As Delta variant surges, masks are back
Masks are back. Seventy-five days after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention declared that vaccinated people no longer needed to wear face coverings, the agency has reversed course, announcing that the rise of the Delta variant necessitates a return to masking.
“In areas with substantial and high transmission, CDC recommends fully vaccinated people wear masks in public indoor settings to help prevent the spread of the Delta variant and protect others,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said on Tuesday in a press briefing.
New CDC guidance published alongside Walensky’s remarks said that until “vaccination coverage is high and community transmission is low,” masking should remain in effect. High transmission is defined by the CDC as more than 100 cases per 100,000 people. Between 50 and 99 cases per 100,000 is defined as “substantial” transmission. (Community transmission can also be calculated by the share of coronavirus diagnostic tests returning positive results.) ...
As Virus Cases Rise, Another Contagion Spreads Among the Vaccinated: Anger
Yep.

Also, the carrot is giving way to the stick. Actual and potential vaccine mandates for:
Federal workers and the military;
State and local govts;
Healthcare workers;
Private businesses;
Recreational facilities like bars and theme parks, etc.
Good.
Idiots and assholes are undeterred, though:

Weird that Bullock County Alabama is yellow. Who knew that the good citizens of Smut-Eye, Perote and Three Notch would be so cdc compliant, or could be due to the 14 people who live there haven't had contact with the outside world.Vrede too wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 8:10 amneoplacebo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 8:24 pmThe CDC has a map on its website showing orange and red zones of the country.

A more interesting graphic would illustrate such things as covid-related hospitalizations and deaths.

That might indeed be "more interesting", Useless, but it wouldn't be what neoplacebo referred to and I stumbled upon. Please do try and keep up. That said, I encourage you to send the CDC a stern note as to what is interesting to you and not. Please let us know what they reply.

The CDC site shows the yellow county as being Perry. Idk why it's different from the news article pic. My guess is that it's a reporting glitch from the county or state, or that the county didn't report in the designated time period.

That had no scale of reference.
Also, hospitalization and especially death would be a lagging indicator.
More relevant in a few weeks.

Re: COVIDiots
Yep, one might guess that blue is worse, but that's not certain, and the pic doesn't tell us by how much. Then, there are no dates attached. We just have to take his word for it. Someone better versed in the basics of science and stats would know these things.
Not surprisingly, if Useless had taken the time to look at my CDC link above - or if he'd asked someone competent to explain it to him - rather than posting some random Imgur pic, he would have seen that one click switches the nationwide county "Map Data" from transmission to deaths to cases to tests to hospitalizations to vaccinations to "Social Vulnerability Index", all with appropriate legends. Imagine that.
As always, this will somehow become our fault that we noticed that Useless is such a pretentious screw up, or he will literally or figuratively run away.

I'd still put money on it being reporting issues for those 3 counties plus the 1 county in LA rather than them being superior to their entire states. No such question with FL or MO, ouch.

By accident I discovered that sniffing glue will exert a toxic effect on the virus.....much more so than whitey bleach or UV light. Fuck that noise. Huff some glue. Evidently the solvents kill the virus. Not many people know this other than the homeless and the uninsured. I stumbled onto it in a remarkable streak of luck.

A really good tip for the non-vaxxers is that even better than sniffing glue is squeezing superglue directly into the nostrils before sniffing sharply.neoplacebo wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 8:34 pmBy accident I discovered that sniffing glue will exert a toxic effect on the virus.....much more so than whitey bleach or UV light.
