2024 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

The dam is breaking.
I'm thrilled, but how many times have we said that about ex-PINO?
Many, but my point is more states will examine and possibly act on this. The chances of the Supremes siding with Colorado and Maine (and future others 🤞🤞) may be small with it's current iteration but trump will have to spend time, money and energy on yet another front. None of which he has in abundance. It also raises the national consciousness for independent voters as to what a scumbag and danger to the republic he continues to be.
Good point, there are side benefits.

SCOTUS is MAGA, but if several states join in perhaps it will decide that con states' rights are the most important issue. If not, at least it will lose further respect by in effect declaring itself to be pro-insurrection and anti-Constitution.

Interesting:

What the framers said about the 14th Amendment's disqualification clause: Analysis

I'm not particularly hopeful, but IF SCOTUS rules in favor of CO and ME would it disqualify TRE45QN from the election entirely or just back the states that choose to disqualify him?

Seems the ultimate question is, do people in states (Supreme Court, Secretary of State, yada) have the legal right to determine qualifications for presidential candidates in their states and disqualify those they determine to be ineligible. Since elections are run by states and they can disqualify candidates for, for example, not having enough signatures or not filling forms on time, or not being old enough, it would seem the answer is "yes."

There's other precedent.
IIRC, the 14th was put in after the Civil War ended with the design that the previous insurrections could not hold office.

Jefferson Davis would not be able to run for example, but he was never charged and tried for insurrection.

People want to argue over the definition of "insurrection." If they want to say the idiots charging the Capitol were "demonstrators" or "protesters" maybe they have an argument, but when it comes to setting up fake electors and coercing others to participate, that's a multi-colored horse indeed.

When they resort to those arguments they've already lost.

The best argument against "insurrection", one they'll never use, is that the whole thing was too incompetently conceived and implemented to ever succeed :D

Yeah, but success has never been a criteria for shooting or hanging insurrectionists in places where such a thing is more frequent. If the US is truly going to continue acting as a second-rate banana republic, it will have to learn to deal with this stuff.

If these guys wannabe right-wing Che Guevaras maybe they should suffer the same fate as the original.

Robinson is also still leading for the GQP nomination, by 26 points as of 12/1.

RepuQs may have deemed him too nutso or too Black to be their man, though. This guy is running a ton of TV ads already despite the primary not being until March 5:

They didn't meet the 10% polling threshold to participate. Just Nikki Heat and Fascist DerSantis will be there :sleepy: :sleepy:

Opinion
Debate coach: One candidate got a B. The other flunked

Nikki Haley: B
Ron DeSantis: D+

I know, the headline writer flunks the definition of "flunked". Irony.

In our recent standard for POTUS campaign chokes Daddy Shrub was replaced by Howard Dean, who was replaced by Hillary, twice. Will Fascist DerSantis become our new epitome of failure?

On the Ballot in Iowa: TRE45QN. Fascist DerSantis. Nikki Heat.
On the Ballot in Iowa: Fear. Anxiety. Hopelessness.

 Fuckin' GQP.
DeSantis, Once a Darling of Conservative News Media, Now Rails Against It

As the Iowa caucuses draw near, Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida has increasingly focused on a peculiar target as he looks to win the Republican nomination: the conservative news media ecosystem that supports former President Donald Trump.

Desperate to make his case that he is a better candidate than Trump — while trailing by wide margins in recent polls — DeSantis seems to have turned on many of the news outlets that once promoted his candidacy, for being unfair in their coverage.

“He’s got basically a Praetorian Guard of the conservative media — Fox News, the websites, all this stuff,” DeSantis told reporters outside his campaign headquarters in Urbandale, Iowa. “They just don’t hold him accountable because they’re worried about losing viewers. And they don’t want to have the ratings go down.”
That's one of the more accurate and honest things I've heard Fascist DerSantis say.
He added: “That’s just the reality. That’s just the truth, and I’m not complaining about it. I’d rather that not be the case. But that’s just, I think, an objective reality.”
 That honesty didn't last long. Of course he's complaining :violin:
It was the most animated version of a message that DeSantis, despite saying he is not complaining, has delivered repeatedly over the last several days.
:D As I said.
"Waaa, do as I say, not as I do."
But he and his team have also taken to attacking Fox News, which was glowing in its coverage of DeSantis until it circled the wagons for Trump once the former president was first indicted in March 2023....
Typical, Fascist DerSantis doesn't have the stones to admit that he is more responsible for his campaign's collapse than anyone else. He should just take his participation trophy and guard dog wife and go home.

I'm betting that he does not quit after getting stomped in Iowa. He might quit after Nikki Heat shames him in NH. What are your guesses?
