What idea might that be?
It's a Florida thang, you wouldn't unnerstan'.
I thought everyone knows that you should cut off the stinger first.

To expunge the resident poltergeist unto the world.
In the late 70's I used to work as a lab research associate for an immunology professor who kept chickens as test subjects. The chickens were kept in cages on the floor below us. The grad students used to make jokes, sort of, about "poultrygeists". The chickens would make these rather odd sounds when anyone in a white coat (such as myself) entered the animal room. Sort of like a human would make if it were expressing mild alarm, trying to communicate such to its fellow chickens. Which was appropriate since my arrival often meant either that I was about to inject one with something foreign, or that, even worse, the animal keeper was next going to euthanize one of them to take tissue for experimental purposes (usually the "bursa", which would contain "B cells" used in our lab experiments). Within 10 or so years I switched to information technology. Computers being more intelligent than chickens.

I guess one could say the poultrygeists were instrumental in that career change.

But I love chicken as a food. Especially the dark meat. I even like live chickens, and have thought of starting a chicken coop here some day. Although local codes would prohibit keeping roosters. The way around that is special feed that contains hormones that stimulate egg production. And then there are the raccoons, which would dearly love to eat some chicken.

And so it goes.

I don't recall them cutting off the stingers. I do remember sitting down at the campsite picnic table and having to look at a big platter full of dead scorpions. The nutjobs who collected them were pleased and proud of their haul. Sort of looked like noodles to me. But I successfully suppressed the urge to try one.

Well sure, but I was referring to Whack9's house being in Florida. ;)

Awww. :violin: , Useless. So much for "Ignored". You fail again. Plus, Useless, you've been busted too many times for anyone to believe you're not reading my posts, anyhow. It's just your excuse for cowering. Awww.

And then there's Gordon Gekko, who probably would start screaming and jump on a chair if he saw a scorpion in the board room...

Hah! I thought about posting that and pointing out that you would resolve the issue by stomping both.

Bizarre cannibalistic fish with fangs washes up on SF Bay Area beach

Image

Apparently this one got rescued. That is, picked up and put back in the ocean. Whether it lived to get back to its customary depth is not known.
Experts say a bizarre-looking fish that a beachwalker discovered on April 5 at Drakes Bay in Point Ryes National Seashore, about 60 miles north of San Francisco, is a lancetfish.

A photo of the fish was posted on the West Marin Feed, which tracks local news, and it got a lot of people talking and wondering, was this a rare find?

"They are found all over the world's oceans, but mostly inhabit deeper waters, so it's unusual to find one on the beach like this," Luiz Rocha, a fish scientist and curator at the California Academy of Sciences, wrote in an email.

Christopher Martin, curator of ichthyology at UC Berkeley, added that while the fish do wash up on beaches around the world from time to time, "we know so little about this fish that we don’t really know when or where to expect them though."

Sort of makes me wonder how the (unamed) beachcomber was able to pick it up and get it back into the ocean without injury.

A driver heard a ‘weird noise’ in the car — then Florida cops found it. And it was alive

Of course, neo's first reaction would have been to stomp on it.
...

“When they looked under the car they found a small scaredy cat that was too petrified to come out,” said the sheriff’s office in a statement. “Our fleet manager came to the rescue and at a speed that could rival a NASCAR pit crew got the tire off safely and pulled the calico out.”

A spokesperson for the PCSO said the car had been in motion before the kitten, a calico — and most likely female — was discovered.

“There’s no way to tell if he/she was in another part underneath and when they stopped that was where he/she hid,” said the police statement provided to the Miami Herald Monday. “The car was at Publix and where they stopped was several miles from the store.”

The kitten, nicknamed “Trooper,” was brought to the local animal control, which confirmed receipt of the calico.

neoplacebo doesn't stomp kittens, goofball. However, you stretch and starch them. Project much?

If had been me I'd have kicked the goddamn thing about fifty yards down the beach and then thrown it into a fire. It looks to me like it needs to die.

Damn, I thought it was some kind of code.....DE is the nutmeg state and NJ is the garden state so I thought those two things were clues; both words have two syllables and they each have three letters in common.

Ah. :D

Fwiw, the last and only POTUS from New Jersey is Woodrow Wilson. "NJ's pet" has Joe Biden. :P
