The Music Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

These two kids take their rap hip-hop background and listen to new varieties of music. I've only seen this one, but plan on watching more from them.
Here they are hearing Phil Collins for the first time.

Look what happened to Collin's song - I assume after this

I scanned through hundreds of their videos and didn't see Buffet, the Beatles or the Stones.

Or any classical

They've been doing this for over a year now. Must be making good money now with multi-million view vids and 391K subscribers. :-||

I searched all of their vids on this channel.

Beatles
The Beatles - Here Comes The Sun (Official Video - 2019 Mix) REACTION - just one brother.
John Lennon / The Beatles - Come Together (Live in New York City) REACTION - just one brother. 1969 John Lennon without the rest of The Beatles.

The Rolling Stones
FIRST TIME REACTION The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter - just one brother.  So cool to hear it again through "fresh ears"!
The Rolling Stones - Sister Morphine (RARE LIVE VERSION) REACTION - just one brother.

No Jimmy Buffett, but you can suggest him in the YT comments (most recent vid is probably best) or on their other social media accounts.

As for "classical":
Frank Sinatra - The Way You Look Tonight REACTION
Elvis Presley - Polk Salad Annie Live REACTION
;)

My bad.
... Though millions of people around the world have been listening to their You Tube Channel, the boys say they are not raking in money.

“We’ve posted about 940 videos so far but at lot of the material is copyrighted so we don’t get anything for it,” says Tim. “We’re doing it because we love the music.”

Phil Collins, Dolly Parton, etc should send them a cut of their resurrected sales.

Inside the Democratic National Convention’s Star-Studded Music Lineup

...
Common
Jennifer Hudson
John Legend
the Chicks — who recently changed their name from the Dixie Chicks
18-year-old Billie Eilish — a first-time voter
performing on Monday night with Billy Porter, 75-year-old Stephen Stills, who wrote and originally sang the song they will perform together, Buffalo Springfield’s timeless 1967 anthem “For What It’s Worth (Stop, Hey, What’s That Sound?).”
relative newcomers Leon Bridges and Maggie Rogers
the National Anthem will be sung by a 57-member chorus featuring people from all U.S. states and territories
Bronx-born Latin music star Prince Royce

... Asked to compare the present-day to the 1960s social unrest that inspired “For What It’s Worth,” Stills said, “The swamp is just as deep and the mendacity and hypocrisy is, too. There’s a lot more on the line now. At least we’ve gotten a few strides as far as civil rights goes, but it just makes me crazy: Billy (Porter) and I were first talking about this on the day that George Floyd died, and he was throwing the furniture around in his apartment he was so angry.

“This election has certainly brought everybody to the party,” he concluded, “and I’m glad to see it.”

Even though nobody asked my permission, I wasn’t surprised to learn that #Trump #864511320 used #HouseoftheRisingSun for his rally the other day...A tale of sin and misery set in a brothel suits him so perfectly! Far more appropriate for this time in our history might be #WeGottaGetOutofThisPlace.

Monterey Pop was one of the early major public performances for Janis Joplin ...
Mama Cass in the audience saying, "Wow," at 5:20. Nice, wow indeed.

Fifty years ago today Jimi Hendrix died. Here's a story about how he was the opening act for The Monkees first concert tour, something I did not know. There's also a clip of Jimi in this story from the Monterey Pop Festival from 67

Lady O v.1 saw the Hendrix/Monkees concert in Miami Beach. Makes a good story to tell later, but apparently it wasn't at all what the Monkees fans (or their parents) were expecting. Actually, Lady O v.1 had some good music experiences in her too-short life, including seeing the Beatles in Shea Stadium, a concert of about 45 minutes.

First, I am sorry for your tragic loss and trust you have many memories to cherish. I didn't know about this Monkees/Hendrix link but from all accounts it was certainly unique. Also, I think the Shea Stadium concert was the last Beatles concert; historic. One of my cousins has 8mm film of Hendrix (among many others) from his time at Woodstock.

Thanks much, but to be clear, Lady O v.1 went down to ovarian cancer at age 34 - long ago but leaving memories of a life well-lived. The current Lady O of BRD fame is still alive and kicking, as feisty as ever.
