Everyone is writing Nikki Heat's political epitaph and that may be accurate, but I think it's positive that 45.5% of the GQP voters chose 'not ex-PINO'. I expected his MAGAt margin to be larger and it's something to build on for Nov.

I understand why Joltin' Joe stayed off the NH ballot and don't have an issue with it. Still, pretty cool that 51.6% of Dem voters wrote him in. Statewide write-in campaigns are difficult to pull off.

Illinois Election Officials To Weigh Recommendation To Remove Trump From Primary Ballot
A retired judge made the recommendation but he says the decision should be left to the courts.

Former President Donald Trump should be removed from Illinois’ primary ballot, but the decision should be left to the courts, a retired judge recommended Sunday to the state’s election board, arguing that it was clear Trump engaged in insurrection in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The Illinois State Board of Elections is expected to consider the recommendation Tuesday. Attorneys for Trump and citizens seeking to keep the Republican former president off the ballot presented their arguments Friday before the hearing officer, Clark Erickson. The retired longtime Kankakee County judge is a Republican.

... Erickson’s 21-page recommendation concluded that a “preponderance of the evidence” presented proves that Trump engaged in insurrection.

But he said the election board can’t engage in the “significant and sophisticated constitutional analysis” required to remove Trump’s name before the March 19 primary.

“All in all, attempting to resolve a constitutional issue within the expedited schedule of an election board hearing is somewhat akin to scheduling a two-minute round between heavyweight boxers in a telephone booth,” he wrote.

It's been my thinking all along that election boards are not legally qualified to in effect convict TRE45QN of insurrection. However, I don't object to the efforts which will land in the courts, anyhow.

Still, Erickson noted that even if the board disagrees with his reasoning, Trump’s name should be removed from the Illinois primary ballot.

The election board is split evenly between four Democrats and four Republicans.

We're starting to get a few campaign ads for the Senate race and House races. Which makes me wonder what would happen if it were ever possible to require honesty in ads. People run for Congress and run ads about all they're going to do. An actual honest ad would go more like this:

If elected, I'll be among the most junior of 434 other members. I'll have an office in a broom closet, and will be assigned to bring coffee to senior members of whatever meaningless committees I'm placed on. I will likely not get any legislation into, much less out of committee and it will probably be at least two more terms before I ever get anything passed, if ever. If I want to ever get anything of my own done, I'll have to mostly go along with whatever the party leadership wants, and will end up voting for a bunch of stuff I don't really want to happen, and will have to vote against some stuff that could be helpful to my constituents. If I want media coverage, I'll have to say outrageous things that will make me look like a fool. And even if I can get somebody with seniority to bring up my bill and even if it's a great bill, it may not get through if it's not to political advantage of the party leadership. But hey - somebody has to sit in this seat, it might as well be me."
