Trump on Trial

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Most corrupt POTUS ever, by far. It's estimated that he's monetized the presidency for $2B.
Trump Says He'd Have Final Say On Money He Seeks Over Past Federal Investigations Into His Conduct
President Donald Trump says the federal government owes him “a lot of money” for prior Justice Department investigations into his actions and insists that any decision on a payout would “have to go across my desk."

... Trump’s comments to reporters at the White House came in response to questions about a New York Times story that said he had filed administrative claims before being reelected seeking roughly $230 million in damages related to the FBI’s 2022 search of his Mar-a-Lago property for classified documents and for a separate investigation into potential ties between Russia and his 2016 presidential campaign....
 He was guilty in all of these instances, even if events and the GQP conspired to inhibit prosecution. This is a desperate attempt to rehabilitate his image and profit off of the taxpayers when all sane and honest people know it's meritless.

Does anyone think that Jack Smith will be allowed to testify publicly (if they are stupid enough to let him testify at all?)

Pence's never-before-published notes key evidence in case against Trump, book says

Donald Trump berated Mike Pence, calling his then-vice president a "wimp" during their final phone call on Jan. 6, 2021, hours before Congress certified the 2020 election of Joe Biden, according to Pence's previously unpublished notes included in a new book by ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl.

According to court filings, had his case against Trump gone to trial, special counsel Jack Smith planned to use the handwritten notes -- hastily scribbled on Pence's day planner -- as evidence to document the hours before Trump allegedly directed a violent mob to storm the Capitol.

Dementia Don is proud of having organized the felonious traitors. At this point he doesn't care about anyone proving that's what he did. Thanks SCOTUS.

Oh yeah, he's immune, at least until 2029 if not more.

I was hoping for the court of public opinion of anyone who's not in the cult.

He's pretty much immune for anything done while POTUS, forever. :angry-cussing:

Do you think there much of the public that hasn't made up its mind as to whether DonOLD organized the felonious traitors? I figured the pardons certified it.

There's still some strange part of me that thinks that part of the public will one day wake up and see the insanity.

Yep, all down the Memory Hole. I meant made up its mind one way OR the other. Not many fence sitters left to persuade. Caveat: The Epstein controversy has made some MAGAts open to being critical of the Cult Leader in other spheres.

The internal discussion of Noem's utter lack of qualifications is a hoot. I seem to remember some saying that here. She's proved all of us correct.

The republicans know Smith would try to make the hearings a circus. He will have plenty of opportunity to make his case.

You're an idiot. There is no case. Now they're trying to make it so that the evidence in the case they managed to kill is never seen by the public.

So the degrading name calling has begun.

If there is no case we will hear nothing of it. In case it escaped you, the GOP called for the closed session. It serves them no purpose to go through the exercise.

You seem to be ignorant of the entire situation. First, the novice trump appointed judge in FL, named Cannon, threw several roadblocks into the case. And while all that was going on, trump won the election so that in itself put the end to it since the Office of Legal Counsel in the Justice Department has a long standing policy that says a sitting president cannot be indicted or prosecuted for a crime. Now trump is trying to erase all evidence of his stealing of classified documents, all evidence of his lying that he even had them, all evidence that he refused to return them for more than a year, by trying to bury Jack Smith's final report on the matter.

But you focus on "name calling." Well, when someone makes a comment and that comment makes it obvious that the commenter has no idea regarding the facts of the matter but automatically cheers for trump, I just felt it my duty to inform you that you're an idiot. Or just willfully ignorant. If trump had not won the election, he'd either be in prison or on his way there.

I attempted to prove that to the slobbering cultist (more name calling) but I doubt it will do any good. It's just too humiliating to have to admit that you've been conned for nearly ten years. Many of them just can't do it.

And I think it's funny that he's scolding me for "name calling" when his cult leader specializes in it. Hilarious.

 If a name fits . . .

Not sure about your last point. It's true that Don OLD's coronation shut down the DoJ investigation. However, Moscow Mitch's stacked MAGA SCOTUS had already granted TRE45QN immunity for everything he'd done. So, prison may have never happened regardless of the election results.

I will now play an attorney here on the forum......Your honor, I submit that defendant trump was no longer president when he absconded from Washington to Florida in January 2021 with hundreds of highly classified documents in his possession. and therefore is not covered by the later Supreme Court immunity ruling that provides immunity for all presidential actions. Defendant was not president when the offense occurred, defendant initially lied that he even possessed the documents, finally admitted to having them, then refused for a year and a half to return them. For these reasons, your honor, we hold the defendant responsible for the crimes charged. The recent attempt by an apologist for defendant to minimize these charges are at best pitiful and at worst pathetic. Permit me to engage in an episode of name calling specifically addressed to said apologist; you are a simpering slobbering shitbag of stupidity. I rest my case.

 Such alliteration, councelor!

Maaaybe.
MAGA Loose Cannon already dismantled much of the case with her rulings. Jack Smith can argue that she was wrong, but the Appeals Court didn't do much to shut her down.
We know what MAGA SCOTUS would have done if it reached them.
It's a bit murky what an outgoing POTUS can do, so conviction is not a slam dunk.
Would the likely penalties have made the effort worth it?

I always liked the federal J6 treason case more, but SCOTUS almost certainly made him immune from that.

Yeah, the Florida case was sabotaged by what the cult would otherwise term an "activist judge." I always thought the case should have been filed in DC since that's where the documents were stolen. So DOJ rolled the dice and got Cannon. So it's effectively dead.

I figured the Capitol insurrection case and the GA case were the ones to send him to jail. But the election ended the insurrection case and state "officials" in GA have declined to continue to pursue the case. Looks like crime actually does pay for some.
