To be fair: We're #1, we're #1, We're #1, we're #1, We're #1, we're #1.

College basketball rankings: Auburn leaps Baylor in Top 25 And 1 after Bears suffer first loss of the season

Way way too early to brag, but damn, I gotta share, Auburn has never been in anyone's top 10 during during the regular season to my knowledge.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-baske ... he-season/
Congrats!
To be fair ;) : CBS Sports Top 25 And 1
Still AP and Coaches #4 until at least 1/17. Passing Baylor may happen, but perhaps not #2 Gonzaga or #3 UCLA unless they lose.
https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/rankings/
USA Today/ESPN is the same.
RPI has Auburn #1, but it's a weird one. For example, Gonzaga is #53.
NET puts Auburn at #6.
https://sports.yahoo.com/college-basketball/rankings/

Rumor has it that the polls will sync up on April 4.
True. And why I said way too early to be anything more than, Cool beans.

This being at the top is a lot different than being a lower ranked underdog.
When will we lose, rather than, we're going to take them down is more nerve racking, but all these #1 rankings are fun to read between games.

I was expecting a #1 with the ap

#1 - Gonzaga (only 25 1st place votes) 1486 overall

#2 - Auburn (36 1st place votes) 1482 overall votes

There are still a few things I don't understand

Oooh, so close. I'm not sure if it can be understood without interviewing each voter. Looks like Auburn must have gotten more #3 or lower votes than Gonzaga, enough to outweigh the #1 votes.
https://sports.yahoo.com/college-basketball/rankings/
Same with USA Today/ESPN, Coaches
RPI has Auburn #1 and Gonzaga #31 :headscratch:
NET has Auburn #6 and Gonzaga #3 :headscratch:
BPI has Auburn #12 and Gonzaga #1 :headscratch:

It's an interesting matchup.
Gonzaga 14-2
Beat 9, 18, 23
Lost to 6, AL

Auburn 16-1
Beat 13, 22 (Sister Jean, GoCubsGo), AL
Lost to 25

Glad I'm not voting. Others:
6. Duke 14-2
9. UCLA 11-2
(28.) Davidson 14-2
(29.) Alabama 11-6
(30.) San Diego State 10-3
(31.) Miami (FL) 13-4
(32.) Oregon 11-6
(38.) North Carolina (2 votes!) 12-4

At least one voter had Auburn at #9 - based on his computer system.
I would have thought that Gonzaga getting beat 10 points by bammer and Auburn beating bammer by 15 would have some meaning.

I guess it may have had more to do with Auburn being new to the club at the top.

We have Kentucky on Saturday

The reason

The reason for the vote shaking out the way it did can be traced to two specific writers.

"The Mercury News's Jon Wilner voted for Gonzaga as No. 1, but also had Auburn at No. 6."

And this guy

"The Kansas City Star's Jesse Newell gave Gonzaga the top spot but had Auburn all the way down at No. 9. He placed three-loss Villanova at No. 3, Houston at No. 4 and Kentucky at No. 7. All three of those teams ended up being outside the top 10 in this week's AP Poll."

Is there really only one acc team in the top 25?

Maybe I'm missing one.

Way to go Pearl

https://oanow.com/sports/college/auburn ... 2123a.html

"The Auburn students braving the cold as they camp out for the Auburn-Kentucky game received a warm surprise Friday night from Bruce Pearl and the Auburn men's basketball team.

Jabari Smith, Devan Cambridge and more players from the men's basketball team joined Pearl in passing out pizza for the players Friday night. Dozens of tents popped up Friday on the greens outside the student section of Auburn Arena as hundreds of students waited in line for Saturday's big game."

That was a good move. But I'm surprised they don't have a better ticket distribution system than having kids stay outside all night waiting to get in. Or is waiting on line part of some tradition?

First come, first serve for students. Also early game time. Expected 32° - kids will have fun.

There are many demands on Auburn's 3 computers. ;)

I doubt that, but even so, there are ways to organize. I remember waaay back in the day when Ticketmaster worked only out of Blockbusters and they got rid of all night lines for concert tickets by changing to a system where at 10:00 they handed out random numbers to whoever was there. So it didn't make any difference if you were there for hours or just arrived, your chances of getting a good (or bad) number were the same. But that's why I asked if maybe it was just an old tradition.

By all accounts they loved it. All kinds of tailgate games and singalongs. Seriously, I don't see the problem.

Devil's advocate: I'm sure it's a blast for the participants and maybe that's sufficient justification. It is college, after all. However, the inefficiency and difficulty does disadvantage students that are working, parents, studies-stressed or disabled, and other nontraditional students. -0-?

Full disclosure: I detest lines and have never done an overnighter for anything in my life. So, I'm biased.
