Not bad for the ukelele consort but will reserve judgement until I see them do "Gimme Shelter" and "Sympathy for the Devil." Plus I'm not happy about them using "gut reaction" for "girly action." I do concede the concepts are related.

So probably everybody except Whack9 would remember "Popsicles and Icicles" around 1963/64 by a one-hit wonder 3-girl group from California. I remember is because it was one of my favourite pop songs at the time. The girls had great voices in a song one could easily imagine excellent days with a girlfriend enjoying life. But I ran across some information about the group I found an interesting part of musical trivia history.

The girls were two sisters and a friend, all 15-17 at the time, who came from musical families. The sisters' father was "Carl Fischer, composer of standards such as Billie Holiday's "You've Changed" and "We'll Be Together Again," sung by Frankie Laine. Carl Fischer was also Laine's musical director and arranger for 10 years. Their mother, Terry Sr., sang with the big bands of the day, ultimately becoming the first female singer with the Stan Kenton Orchestra. Their grandmother and her three sisters played the vaudeville circuit as the Locus Sisters."

The song was written by David Gates (later of "Bread"). The family had enough contacts to get it recorded and released by a backwater outfit Chattahoochee Records, which only lasted for about four years. "Popsicles" was the biggest hit they had, and they folded not long after "Popsicles" faded off the charts. During the time "Popsicles" was riding high the girls got offers from other big studios, but their mother turned them down in a misguided effort to be loyal to Chattahoochee.

The record made a lot of money for most everybody except the girls, who never actually received any payment after all the money went elsewhere.
They didn't even end up with rights to their own name, and the few subsequent releases by "Murmaids" were other singers, none being memorable then or later.

All the girls went on to mostly non-entertainment lives, with the occasional tribute performance somewhere.

But here's the factoid for your trivia game: What was the last American group to have a #1 single immediately preceding the British invasion and the Beatles' "I want to hold your hand." Yeppers, that would be The Murmaids.

I remember when Dean Martin's and Desi Arnaz's sons and a friend were a group (Dino, Desi, and Billy) and made a record that pretty much went nowhere. It was probably around the same time as your girl group but I don't remember them or that song. But I also had Dino, Desi, and Billy's record but don't remember the name of it.

I figured since I've gotten by with hearing I'm a Fool for about 45 years, that I might as well shoot for 50, so I didn't listen.

Trivia: the original "Valley Girl" was done by Moon when she was 14 - and she made it up as she went along. Ironically, "Valley Girl" was also Frank's highest ranked single in the US.

Sometimes performers don't like, or get tired of, their most famous songs. Timothy B. Schmidt got a job with the Eagles because Randy Meisner no longer wanted to perform "Take it to the Limit" in concerts. When Jimmy Page and Robert Plant went on concert tours after Zeppelin was over, they refused to play "Hotel California" despite that being what the majority of the audience came to hear. Mick Jagger said "I sure hope to Hell I'm not still singing 'Satisfaction' when I'm 40" yet he's still singing it at almost 80.

Of "Shiny Happy People," REM's hit with Kate Pierson of the B-52's, Michael Stipe said, "It's a fruity pop song written for children ... If there was one song that was sent into outer space to represent R.E.M. for the rest of time, I would not want it to be 'Shiny Happy People.'" I dunno, I might agree with him.

Damn autocorrect. It missed that one.
But yeah, of course Stairway to Heaven. I saw Page/Plant in Orlando sometime late 90's and everybody was expecting it. Then expecting it for an encore. Yelled for it. Never got it.
