Are escapes from federal prison a big thing these days? I've been to Alcatraz (GGNRA), it would cost tens of millions or more to rebuild, more than starting from scratch would cost. There's zero reason why it would be any more intimidating than any other pen. As for enlarging it, the island is small. Not much room to make it bigger and still have room for the necessary docking facilities, administration, storage, maintenance, etc.

Will we publicly debate this stupidity, or will BoP and NPS quietly and tactfully tell King Tang that it's stupid and we'll never hear about it again?
