Palin had the same problem in 2008, and Romney, Santorum and others in 2012: Republican candidates regularly have to contend with dirty tricks like this from the dishonest lib'rul lamestream media. (That is, playing back the candidates' words verbatim.)

Palin adopted encryption: Her speeches became an unintelligible mess that defied understanding when quoted. Trump is half-way there.

Let's say Trump intends "humor" or "sarcasm" and yet is repeatedly "misunderstood" or "distorted." Wouldn't you think a rational person might stop trying to be sarcastic?

You answered your own question.

The latest is his flip-flop-flip on Obama/Hillary being the founders of ISIS. Even if he wasn't being sincere it's hyperbole, not "sarcasm". Ironically, Trump needs an ESL class.

The story so far:

- Techdirt: Putin's Internet Trolls Are Stoking The Vitriolic Fire By Posing As Trump Supporters

- Trump publicly urged Russia to cyber-invade the United States to find and publish the 30,000 hacked emails that have not been released.

- Paul Manafort, Trump's campaign chairman, has spent decades as a political adviser in eastern Europe. He worked closely with Putin-supported former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych who was ousted from power in 2014.

- Trump's foreign policy advisor Carter Page has "deep and continuing financial and employment ties" to Gazprom, Russia's trillion dollar energy company.

- Mr. Trump no longer does business with many US banks. Instead he "has steadied and rebuilt his financial empire with a heavy reliance on capital from Russia" according to a lawsuit uncovered by the New York Times.

- Trump has often praised Putin. But when asked by reporters last week if Russian President Vladimir Putin might favour a win for Trump, he said "I don't know who Putin is".

- Trump promises to pull the US out of NATO.

- The Republican National Committee shifted their stance on Russia under pressure from Trump staff in the days leading up to the convention in Cleveland, softening their position on the invasion of Crimea and Western Ukrain and weakening their support for Ukraine.

Update:

Yesterday George Stephanopoulos questioned Trump about that last point. Trump's defense of Putin - who has already invaded Crimea and western Ukraine: "He's not going into Ukraine, OK, just so you understand. He's not going to go into Ukraine, all right? You can mark it down. You can put it down. You can take it anywhere you want."
Papers recovered from the office of Ukraine’s former pro-Russian ruling party list $12.7 million in cash payments to Paul Manafort, Donald Trump’s current campaign manager, between 2007 and 2012. Manafort's furniture and personal items were still there as recently as May.

This weekend Ivanka Trump hung out in Croatia with Vladimir Putin's girlfriend.

Giuliani, backing Trump, appears to briefly forget 9/11

Rudolph Giuliani, promoting Donald Trump's national security plan, said Monday that in the "eight years before (President Barack) Obama came along, we didn't have any successful radical Islamic terrorist attack in the United States." That's an apparent omission of the largest terror attack in United States history.

Giuliani was mayor of New York City on Sept. 11, 2001 ...

Also:
- October 10, 2000 New York terror attack. Three young men of Arab descent hurled crude Molotov cocktails at a synagogue in The Bronx to "strike a blow in the Middle East conflict between Israel and Palestine"

- July 4, 2002: 2002 Los Angeles Airport shooting

- October 2002 Beltway sniper attacks. Evidence presented showed an affinity to the cause of the Islamic jihad.

- March 5, 2006: Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar injured 6 when he drove an SUV into a group of pedestrians at UNC-Chapel Hill to "avenge the deaths or murders of Muslims around the world".

- June 1, 2009: Arkansas recruiting office shooting

- November 5, 2009: 2009 Fort Hood shooting:

And yes, by the same standard there have been plenty of "radical Christian" shootings and bombings too.

BoingBoing: Roger Ailes is Donald Trump's new campaign advisor, reports say.
Former Fox News chairman Roger Ailes, kicked out last month over sexual harassment charges, has been advising GOP Presidential nominee Donald Trump, as the self-described billionaire candidate prepares for the fall presidential debates.

Trump has been accused three times of rape or attempted rape, by three different women. One was his wife. He also faces child rape charges in a legal case involving abuse alleged to have taken place in 1994. Beyond those most serious accusations, Trump is widely reported to be a sexist predator who “crosses the line” with women routinely, and has for a very long time.

If today's New York Times story about the Ailes mentorship is true, and naturally Trump's camp is denying it -- the Orange-Fingered Vulgarian is receiving tactical guidance on how to beat democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the debates from a man accused by more than a dozen women of sexual harassment and sexual abuse, over decades.

I heard someone say that he is also hiring Bill Cosby to solve his negro problem.

Well, look - just because Ailes is an asshole doesn't mean he isn't a capable debate coach. Not that I would choose him, but his work on debates goes back to Reagan, as well as Romney. Romney lost the election, but wasn't totally inept in the debates. On the other hand, he isn't likely to provide any new ideas or anything other than traditional Republican talking points and tactics, and unless they let him whisper into Trumps earpiece or give Trump a teleprompter in a VR headset, he's sure to jump right into the crazy. Overall, I think Trump's support of an affiliation with Ailes will be more negative than positive. Attacking Ailes' accusers by saying he "did a lot for them" isn't going to help. Even if you didn't think sexual harassment was all that awful, you'd have to admit that Ailes is (a) so arrogant and isolated that he thinks current standards don't apply to him; and/or (b) he's so ill-informed he doesn't know times have changed. Either way, he wasn't acting in the best interest of his company.

I’m A Doctor. Here’s What I Find Most Concerning About Trump’s Medical Letter

Donald Trump is talking about Hillary Clinton’s health, as are two doctors who have never evaluated Clinton. They have apparently diagnosed her with all kinds of ailments using the long disproven Fox-Drudge equation.

This attention on Clinton has renewed some interest in the letter Donald Trump released last year from his personal physician.

Image

Many outlets have picked it apart, but I want to tell you as a doctor exactly how bad it is. I would never write anything this terrible for a jury duty excuse or a back to work note, never mind something that half the country (and possibly half the world) might see or could possibly end up one day in a presidential library!

There are so many issues with the letter I’m going to just start at the beginning:

1. The header has a non-working web address, and doctors don’t include e-mail addresses in letters....

2. Lennox Hill has a Division of Gastroenterology, not a “Section,” and Dr. Bornstein isn’t listed on the website as a member....

3. The letter starts with a typo.

Image

I’m the typo queen so I’m not really one to judge, but if a patient of mine were running for president and needed a letter, I’d make damn sure it was typo-free.

4. No doctor describes tests as “only positive results” or “astonishingly excellent.” ...

5. Doctors don’t say “test score” — we just give the results....

6. How did Dr. Bornstein test Donald Trump’s strength and stamina? ...

7. “The healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.”

Every news site has pointed out how ridiculous this is. Dr. Bornstein is not a medical historian who runs a presidential health archives and obviously Washington and Lincoln never had their PSA checked for comparison. The first blood pressure cuff was invented in 1881, so yeah.

8. There isn’t any useful health information....

It’s a terrible letter.

Did Dr. Bornstein write it? If so he should be embarrassed. It’s medically illiterate. If he doesn’t know his website doesn’t work or if that he’s not in the Division of Gastroenterology, that’s an issue.

Did Trump write it? He’ll never tell. It certainly reads like a letter written by someone with close to no knowledge of Dr. Bornstein’s practice or medicine.

All I can say is, typos and weird links and mentions of non-existent sections of gastroenterology and nonsensical medical information aside the letter provides essentially no medical information.

***

After this was originally posted someone mentioned that Dr. Jacob Bornstein died in 2010.

Was an old doctor’s letter used as a template with the person copying the letterhead not knowing or remembering that the elder Dr. Bornstein had passed away? Is this Dickensian six-year-old letterhead with the name of the deceased still at the top?
