Single hurricane thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Looks like the storm my track a little further west than originally expected. We shall see. Bodes better for us I guess.

Oh no, do I have enough TP to get through the weekend???

Looks like I'm in the dirty corner of the dirty corner. wunderground guesses 11" over the 3 days here, 7" on Greenville.

Temps will be moderate, so even a power disruption won't be uncomfortable.

John made landfall in the southwestern Mexican state of Guerrero last night as a Cat 3. It wasn't supposed to blow up like that. I haven't seen our news covering it at all.
Back into the Pacific, TS, due to make landfall as a Cat 2 (or stronger?) Friday in the state of Michoacan. Then back into the Pacific on Saturday.

Then, there's Tropical Storm Isaac headed for Europe

If we all gather our sharpies maybe we can make this storm go away.

This is going to be devastating, all this rain and then 45-60 mph wind. I don't know if WNC has been hit with a storm this hard since Ivan in 2004 or Opal in 1994.

Rain has eased off this morning. We're supposed to get another couple of inches today, walloped again with 5" tonight.

Idk about comparisons. Since I've been here we've had a couple of powerful storms with flooding, mudslides, etc. This could be worse. Maybe the local news will tell me.

Hooterville is right in the pink death zone. Whack9 is near the "GSP", red zone near the pink border.

I'm well stocked and safe, and temps are mild. If I disappear for a couple of days it'll be internet and/or power outage.

Were you there for Ivan or Opal?

My power was out for about a week for both. Didn't leave home without the chainsaw.

I got here half a year after Ivan. He was still a frequent topic of conversation.

My power was out for about a week for both.
I'm so close to downtown that power is usually restored within a couple of days. There was an ice storm in late 2005 or 06 that knocked the power out for a few days. I was equipped and managed, but Mom got a hotel room.

Didn't leave home without the chainsaw.

I lived off Little River Rd in Flat Rock. Had to cut my way in and out a couple of times. I've got pictures somewhere of the maze of power lines, downed trees and branches from Ivan.

It was a mess.

We got 7-8" already, mostly overnight. So, we're good and saturated for the rains to come.

Water often pools at the Greenville-Spartanburg highways intersection. TV shows that it's a flowing stream!

It's mind boggling after all these years and all the floods it's never been remedied.

Say goodbye to Haus Heidelberg (again).
