The Religion Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

It depends on who or what your devil(s) and god(s) are. I have one God I've gained and one devil to shun, and I've picked the right God.

So Mr. B, your clinging to your guns, who's at work here, the devil or God?

A good example of 'religion'.

Every supernaturalist believes their "god" is the right one.
They can't all be right, but they can all be wrong.

I picked the right one because someone told me I picked the right one. The bible of my particular religion also said I picked the right one, so I know I picked the right one.

That's because there's a difference in "a god" and God.

I just used the lower case to make it more inclusive and cover all who
believe in supernatural beings. Upper case makes no difference to me.
The point remains that everyone believes their God is the correct one,
but that can't be right, since there are so many. And there is no reason
for me to think that any particular one is better than any other.

The devil in the Christian religion seems more moral the "God". Chosen the right one, picked the wrong side?

The link that Homerfobe posted is a clear example of extremism not unlike that of the Westboro Church. Uniformed security guards? Banishing committees?
That "church" certainly is not a reflection of the life of a Christian, and no 'good' can be found in their doctrine. Sounds more like a cult.

The "side" that I'm on is thus:

9. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

10. "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Romans 10:9-10 (KJV)

Interesting article on the cognitive dissonance between what church members see in real life and what they hear at church.

Morning jocks Lex and Terry http://www.lexandterry.com/ used to have a segment named "Foreign or Domestic." A caller would be selected to guess whether the person to answer the phone at a random bodega (7/11 type store) would be native American or foreign immigrant.

I think we should have a thread named "Christian or Not Christian" and let Mr.B be the judge. Articles will be presented such as the one above where some "Christian" person or group did something, and Mr.B will decide if they are "real" Christians or not.

Not to try to do Mr.B's job, but on this first entry of condemnation of a girl's hairstyle choice, I'd guess he'd say "Not Christian."

Don't pretend you wouldn't act the same if someone came to you like that. We put them in mental help facilities now though, so you don't come across them near as often.

Vile towards Christianity? Maybe, especially parts about killing everyone, selling your daughter into prostitution, sacrifices.... gods loving the smell of burnt flesh, etc. etc. I mean, who wouldn't be against the evil parts of the Christian religion? You're against the "evil" parts of the Muslim religion aren't you?
