The Food Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Cops don't mind living by cliches - otherwise there wouldn't be stops for driving while Mexican. I've seen a lot of scruffy-looking Black or Mexican-driven cars stopped by cops; I've seen a lot of fast-looking beasts stopped, also. I don't know that i've ever seen the aforementioned cliched Volvo stopped. But it doesn't have to be a Volvo - my real point is I've always wondered why drug runners seem so frequently to choose cars that look like they belong to drug runners.
I was just making a joke about druggie Volvo's trying too hard. Idk. To be fair, what we know is that drug runners who get caught choose cars that look like they belong to drug runners. Campers and RVs worked for my friend, even if they didn't really have the legal protection he thought they provided.

So, it's from 2014, but the writer acknowledged the old cars:
And who'd expect the wild and crazy Prius C, the little one of the Prius hybrid family, to be in the Top 20 of ticket-bait.

Three other U.S.-brand cars made the top 20: The Mercury Topaz ranked seventh with 28.8%, the Pontiac G8 ranked 15th with 27.7%, and the Saturn Aura ranked 18th with 27.1%

None of the four U.S. cars in the Top 20 is still manufactured. Ford has discontinued the Mercury brand and the Topaz was last produced in 1994. General Motors abandoned Pontiac and Saturn in its 2009 bankruptcy restructuring.

Kind of weird, the articles are at least five years old on a Yahoo search.

Last night we tried a bit different fish. We went to our favourite fishmonger and bought some Monchong about three hours out of the water. It was delicious - grilled, with only olive oil, sea salt and coarse ground black pepper. Majorly excellent!
Delicate yet decadent, monchong has a highly transparent, clear, white flesh with pinkish tones that cooks up snow white and flaky. It is firm in texture with a moderately sweet, rich flavor similar to black cod. Because of its high oil content, this delicious fish is well suited for grilling but it can also be broiled, sautéed and baked. It is also perfect for tempura!

I hadn't heard of it, either, and it's not caught commercially in large quantities around here. They usually get them while collecting tuna. More of them out around Hawaii. Really is good, though.

Me neither, but the ”family currently includes 20 species across 7 genera.” The article doesn't list all the common names that are used.

Yep, $16/lb. More than salmon, less than halibut.

Halibut was actually on sale by me this week, $12.00 a pound. Hadn't had in a while. I used a sweet curry rub and pan sauteed and topped with chutney.

It was good, but nothing special.

That sounds very good, but maybe your halibut wasn't as fresh as it might be. I'm guessing you get Atlantic Halibut? I know there is Atlantic, Pacific, and California Halibut, but I've never heard of a Mid-West Halibut. If you got pre-frozen Atlantic Halibut, you might have been better off getting flounder. But I think I'll try your recipe.

You never know, especially in the midwest, but it was from an upscale store and supposed to be fresh. It was firm and had good color.

Could just be me.
