I know, it's not shocking, it's not surprising, it's just what the asshole does, but still - other than in the context of Trump, can you imagine any country's leader, in the midst of a pandemic, economic meltdown, massive protests across the nation...bothering to tweet like this?
This fool has got to go.
The only thing shocking from is it took Cheetohead 48 hours to respond.
C'mon guys, he had important work to do hindering our pandemic response.

As Trump touts increased production, coronavirus swabs made during his Maine factory tour will be tossed in the trash

We do like to tie ourselves in linguistic knots, don't we? Headline writer just couldn't bring him/herself to write "Indian Group urges..." yet the group opposing the Redskins name calls itself "Indians" and uses a logo that wouldn't look out of place on the side of a DC helmet.

Too bad NAs aren't at the top of the sport. It only took one black kid 5 days to force an entire state to change its flag

I think the All Blacks don't have many more Black players than the Redskins have Indians.

The New Zealand national rugby union team has always been integrated with Maori players, and the team name has nothing to do with skin color.
... New Zealand's early uniforms consisted of a black jersey with a silver fern and white knickerbockers. By the 1905 tour they were wearing all black, except for the silver fern, and the name "All Blacks" dates from this time....

Yeah, I know, but no matter the original intent of the name, you couldn't get by naming a team "All Blacks" in the US. People apply their own connotations, intent be damned.

"Investors ask sponsors to cut ties with Redskins unless team changes name"

"I call on Dan Snyder once again to face that reality, since he does still desperately want to be in the nation's capital," said Eleanor Holmes Norton, D.C.'s nonvoting delegate to the House of Representatives, according to The Washington Post's Liz Clarke. "He has got a problem he can't get around - and he particularly can't get around it today, after the George Floyd killing."

https://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/nfl/in ... &ocid=iehp

Snyder has many problems - in addition to just being a generally despised asshole. But I wonder what actual team fans have to say about a name change. Some would favour it, I'm sure, and some would oppose. I wonder what the percentage would be. I think to keep/increase the fan base, you'd have to do more than just change the name. You'd have to have a new owner, new management, new look and attitude - just as if the 'Skins moved away and DC got a replacement team. Otherwise, Dan's got more than mad-Indian, socially crude problem - he's got a Baltimore Colt/SD Charger problem - and fans got long memories.

I agree, but I don't think Eleanor Holmes Norton and allies' goal is to keep/increase the fan base. They're probably okay with it, but are more focused. If the name changes the team can move back to DC and will retain most investors and sponsors. Beyond that is up to Snyder and the NFL.

America Reckons With Racial Injustice
The NFL Will Play 'Lift Every Voice And Sing' Before Each Season-Opener Game

"Lift Every Voice and Sing" will be played or performed live before every Week 1 NFL game, as the league considers ways to recognize victims of systemic racism.

The song known as the Black national anthem will play at the start of every season opener game, coming before "The Star Spangled Banner," a source familiar with the league's discussions told NPR.

The song will be played beginning Sept. 10, with the nationally televised Kansas City Chiefs vs. Houston Texans game. It will also play during the full slate of Sunday afternoon games, Sunday Night Football and the two ESPN Monday night games.

The league has been in discussions on the subject with the National Football League Players Association.

Other items being discussed include on-uniform elements like names of victims on helmet decals or jersey patches, educational programs and storytelling, for example, in the form of public service announcements about victims and their families....

Probably not my place to say, but ugh. I already disliked it before I got to the god-heavy latter verses. I don't even like Beyonce's version.

And therein lies another part of the problem. She/they probably wouldn't care if the team moved. I understand there's a vacancy in Oakland with a crowd that would likely be fine with "Redskins".

No way does a racist team name fly in the Bay Area.
