Six Million Dollars is chump change to the Pentagon. As long as we're dumping the name of a loser, let's honor a winner - Lê Đức Thọ.

True, a fitting replacement for a slaver/traitor, one designed to piss off White bigots.

“The idea of bringing down all those Confederate monuments to Confederate soldiers and generals who strongly supported secession and maintaining slavery and going to war to do it, I think those statues belong in museums, they don’t belong in public places," he continued.
"I think with regard to those statues and monuments, like the Jefferson Memorial, there’s an obligation that the government protect those monuments because they’re different. That’s a remembrance, it’s not dealing with revering somebody who had that view. They had much broader views. They may have had things in their past that were now and then distasteful, but that’s a judgment.”
“I can understand the anger and anguish that people feel by having for years and years been under the statue of Robert E. Lee if you’re an African American,” Biden said. “It’s always better to do it peacefully … the elected officials where those statues are have a responsibility to remove, put them in museums. Get them down … and don’t be surprised if someone pulls down the statue of Jefferson Davis. It’s better that they do not, but it’s fundamentally different than … grabbing Jefferson off his chair.”

University of Wisconsin students call for removal of Abraham Lincoln statue on Madison campus
https://www.chicagotribune.com/midwest/ ... story.html
Chicago Tribune: Some University of Wisconsin-Madison students of color want the university to remove one of its most iconic landmarks, a statue of Abraham Lincoln, because of what they see as the former president’s anti-Indigenous and anti-Black history despite Lincoln’s legacy of ending slavery in the U.S.
The students’ efforts gained newfound attention after protesters tore down two other statues at the state Capitol earlier this week — one of Civil War abolitionist Hans Christian Heg and another of a female figure that represents the state’s “Forward” motto.
The toppling of those statues divided the famously liberal city, with activists arguing the action calls attention to inequities long ignored by white liberals and others denouncing the destruction of what they see as symbols having little to do with the Black Lives Matter movement.
The proposed removal of the Lincoln statue will likely fall along a similar fault line: Students of color say aspects of Lincoln’s history disqualify him from being honored in the most prominent spot on UW-Madison’s sprawling campus. Opponents, including UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank, question where the line can ever be drawn in recognizing the country’s history if the “Great Emancipator” is among those to be booted.

Doesn't your religion specifically forbid graven images and the worship or adulation of them? Why do you go out of your way to stray from your religion in order to maintain your status as a proud member of the trump cult of lies and ignorance? Does hating your religion go with hating your country or are they separate issues in your alleged mind?

I agree with Biden. If they're honored because they were traitors that fought for slavery, move them or tear them down. If they're honored for other reasons yet were imperfect humans, leave them alone. However, there's no harm in adding context, warts and all.

Cancel culture can be taken too far. I don't agree with ripping down statues of Abraham Lincoln. Nor other abolitionists.
In a hundred years, some of our beliefs which we may consider completely innocuous may be considered barbaric.

There's a difference in remembering and honoring. Museums display articles and information to teach. Statues have no purpose but to honor. Read the generally accepted symbolism of statuary. Like having the guy on a horse; whether the horse is standing or rearing, etc. F'rinstance:

More from the Chicago Tribune: Since 1909, the bronze statue depicting the 16th president has sat steadfastly atop Bascom Hill, looking down State Street toward the Capitol Dome. “Honest Abe” is baked into the Badger tradition: New students rub Lincoln’s left shoe for good luck and his lap is often a last stop for seniors seeking a commencement photo.1 CAT FAN wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 4:02 pmUniversity of Wisconsin students call for removal of Abraham Lincoln statue on Madison campus

But Lincoln’s time in office includes several actions that the Black Student Union says warrants replacing the statue with someone “who stands for the justice of all people.”

Copenhagen's Little Mermaid labelled "racist fish"

I can't tell what the stickers say.
Context: There's a long tradition of messing with the statue. Not something that I would do, but I think this is rather clever.

CNN called Mount Rushmore "majestic" and "quite a sight" in 2008 when Obama visited
https://www.breitbart.com/the-media/202 ... mp-visits/
In 2008, CNN anchor Ron Marciano said: “Barack Obama is campaigning in South Dakota. That state’s primary is Tuesday. Obama arrived there late last night and got a good look around Mt. Rushmore — it’s quite a sight if you haven’t seen it.”
Fellow anchor Betty Nguyen added: “Barack Obama is in South Dakota today. He arrived there last night. Take a look at this. He got a good glimpse of the majestic Mount Rushmore.
CNN’s Jim Acosta called Rushmore a “fitting stop for a presidential contender” in 2008.
