The Rick Perry Show
This is going to be fun. If they hadn't <actually> sent Blogavitch to jail, I'd think the Perry charges might be overblown. But he's such a blowhard, he's not even going to keep his mouth shut and let the lawyers work on it. True, he's indicted in Travis County (Austin) which is heavily Democratic. But the jury will be from Travis County too. Dude's in deep doodoo. He's already used the same arguments Blogavitch used, and with the same bluster. He has thus far focused on his right to veto, which nobody is contesting. Blogavitch has a right to appoint a Senator, too, but that wasn't the issue. Blogavitch was not allowed to sell the job for political gain. Perry isn't allowed to extort a duly elected official. Let's see, at least three high-profile Republican governors have gotten into legal troubles (Perry, Christie, Walker) and probably McCrory will be. Let's go with the Republican line - it's Democratic witch-hunting. Might that still mean a lot of people don't like these guys? I've sharpened my pitchfork and I'm ready to light my torch. Anybody know where to get some tar and feathers?

No, he already had no chance to be President - or even a Presidential nominee. But he didn't know that. The man has way more ego and self-esteem than has ever been beneficial to any human. To be sure, you have to be pretty cocky to think you'll get elected President no matter who you are, but he's beyond the pale. He's been King of Texas for so long he thinks that's the same as being King of the World. A lot of people think the world is bounded by the Red and Rio Grande.

I worry that Rick Perry will accidentally fatally shoot himself while trying to tie his shoes and that nobody will notice. I think it was a dream I had.

Good analysis here, taking the position generally that Perry may eventually beat the charges, but not necessarily easily or without some extensive wrangling.

The precedent cited appears to be applicable, but far from decisive. I still say he's in deep.

True, but in some places; like Rock Ridge in Blazing Saddles, and even in parts of Texas proper, it takes a heavy hand to get things under control. Just like all this stuff going on in Iraq right now......Saddam wouldn't stand for it. It wouldn't happen. I think we should send Dick Cheney and Rick Perry over there to make things right.

Agrees with me that Perry's in deep, and offers additional information.

What I enjoy about Neo's posts is that they are entertaining, but if you pay attention, you get a lot of wisdom. And it's absolutely correct that some situations will be either (a) chaotic or (b) tightly controlled. How many countries are out there who turned over/out a despot only to find themselves much worse off as their version of civilization turns to anarchy.neoplacebo wrote:True, but in some places; like Rock Ridge in Blazing Saddles, and even in parts of Texas proper, it takes a heavy hand to get things under control. I think we've got an answer as to whether - bluster or not - Perry knows he's in trouble.
