Romney - get rid of FEMA
Mitt Romney In GOP Debate: Shut Down Federal Disaster Agency, Send Responsibility To The States
"During a CNN debate at the height of the GOP primary, Mitt Romney was asked, in the context of the Joplin disaster and FEMA's cash crunch, whether the agency should be shuttered so that states can individually take over responsibility for disaster response.
"Absolutely," he said. "Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that's the right direction. And if you can go even further, and send it back to the private sector, that's even better. Instead of thinking, in the federal budget, what we should cut, we should ask the opposite question, what should we keep?"

Oh but wait. In keeping with taking every side of every issue ....
Breaking News, Romney flip flops again. Campaign now says he wouldn't get rid of FEMA. What a tool.
"DAVENPORT, Iowa—As Hurricane Sandy bears down on the East Coast, Mitt Romney's campaign is pushing back against suggestions that he wants to abolish the Federal Emergency Management Agency—insisting that he would simply prefer to see states take a greater role in disaster relief.
At a GOP primary debate in June 2011, Romney, when asked about FEMA's budget woes and how he would deal with it, had said, "Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that's the right direction. And if you can go even further and send it back to the private sector, that's even better".

No, no, it makes sense for them.perspctv wrote:How would the private sector take over for FEMA?

They'll simply call for a personal mandate to pay into an Emergency Management Agency. A mandatory insurance payment, because why should you pay from someone else's insurance?
Newt Gingrich and other prominant Republicans will demand the personal mandate in articles and TV interviews. A Republican state governor will institute just such a personal mandate in his own state, and it will be lauded by other Repubicans as How It Should Be Done. That success will help launch his run for the Presidency.
Then a Democratic President will adopt the policy. And instantly it will become commie marxist socialism. They'll let it pass through Congress - barely - screaming about it all the way - but it'll pass because in the end it was their plan and they don't have an alternative.

bet he's forgotten he said that FEMA shouldn't help the storm victims
chris cristy, just said that he spoke with obama at midnight and fema at 2 a.m. and he is just all bubbly with praise for both
he said that obama gave him his personal cell number and that he can call anytime with his concerns

That is right do away with FEMA. JUST SEND THE MONEY TO THE GOVERNORS DURING A DISASTER AND HIS NG CAN DO THE WORK. More good for less money.

It falls to the states anyway. FEMA must be setup to serve all 50 states. The states had much the same setup before FEMA.Vrede wrote:How is dividing relief efforts and thus increasing the number and size of bureaucracies for multi-state disasters not violating the Occam's razor principle? Seems like centralized planning and coordination is more efficient.

Guy wins his party's nod by pretending to be "severely conservative."
Then he wins the first debate by flip-flopping positions and pretending to be "severely Obama."
Note to independent voters: Forget anything Rmoney's said for the previous years. Just believe what he said during the debates.
Note to conservative voters: Forget anything Rmoney said during the debates. Just keep saying, "Hey, Bubba. Rmoney's done won that debate."
