... Darnold has entered each season of his four-year career as a starter, including three with the New York Jets and last year with the Panthers. He appeared in 12 games in 2021, though he struggled with just nine passing touchdowns and 13 interceptions for a 71.9 rating.

His 33.2 total QBR ranked 29th of 31 qualified players, beating only rookies Zach Wilson and Justin Fields.

It was enough for the Panthers to search for alternatives this offseason, and they finally added Mayfield in a July trade with the Cleveland Browns....

Mayfield won the job and will look to get revenge against his old team in Week 1 of the regular season (in Charlotte)....

More seriously, I have not followed their situation closely. Is this on Pete, which would make me sad, on ownership, which I'm fine with being angry at, or is it both?

A lot of talk about the 'Hawks needing a "rebuilding", rumours of some dissention with a restless Wilson and Carroll, maybe wanting to clear cap money, I don't know. I do know that trading off a 33 year old pro bowl QB who never gets injured and has probably at least another 5 years at the top of his game doesn't make sense to most people. Sure if you already have a solid replacement you want to grow, and can make a lot off a trade, you might do it, but does anybody see Geno or Drew as Wilson replacements?
