We can thank the Obama administration for understanding that severe austerity measures in the face of a recession ..à la Greece..Ireland.. would only exacerbate the problem.. .
By any reasonable measure.. the stimulus worked..

Where did this term "fiscal cliff" come from. I heard it first election week, and now it's non-stop "fiscal cliff" talk on all the news stations.

"Austerity" means what it means here; let the little people suck it up and make the sacrifices. Somewhere in the missing content, I posted before the election that the Europeans we met were overwhelmingly in support of Obama. To them, Romney was a universal symbol of the disparity between the upper crust and the dwindling middle-class. On the Sunday before the election, my honorary Italian nonno repeated with great fervor, Obama, encore. Obama, encore.
No chaos here, a precursor to the widespread strike. These folks stand to lose their jobs if the city makes the restaurants cut their outdoor seating by 30 percent. Even many of the indoor only eateries were closed. Wonder if we'd find that level of solidarity in our fair city.

Perhaps it might be better for deficit reduction than any deal that might be worked out. Since the argument for the past 4 years has been that only the wealthy have benefitted from the Bush tax cuts, then the converse must be true that only the wealthy will be hurt if they expire.
