While Republicans continue to soul search after their party's loss in the presidential election, former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour injected a new term Wednesday to describe the GOP's introspection.

"The ground game is really important, and we have to be, I mean we've got to give our political organizational activity a very serious..." he said, taking a pause and looking for the right word. "Proctology exam. We need to look everywhere."

The Psychiatrist and the Proctologist

Two doctors opened an office in a small town and put up a sign
reading: "Dr. Smith and Dr. Jones, Psychiatry and Proctology."

The town council was not happy with the sign, so the doctors changed
it to "Hysterias and Posteriors."

This was not acceptable either, so in an effort to satisfy the
council they changed the sign to "Schizoids and Hemorrhoids." No go.

Next, they tried "Catatonics and High Colonics." down again.

Then came "Manic Depressives and Anal Retentives." Still no good.

Another attempt resulted in "Minds and Behinds." Unacceptable again.

"Analysis and Anal Cysts?" Nope.

"Nuts and ?" Uh uh.

"Freaks and Cheeks?" Still no go.

"Loons and Moons?" Forget it.

Almost at their wit's end, the doctors finally came up with: "Dr
Smith and Dr. Jones, Odds and Ends."

Everyone loved it.

It's funny how the more they say, the worse they look. Mitt's now saying that Obama "gifted" the groups he wanted to solidify in his base. Duh! Like he didn't know that a year or so ago? Like even the right-wing yappers weren't saying he had catered to LGBT, blacks, hispanics, yada? So this is a surprise? It's just another example of being outfoxed, outplayed, outsmarted, and out-performed.

Every Republican in the world could have looked at the black vote and found that it's been 90-something percent Dem for years. They could also see they've done nothing to change that. But out of the thin air up their asses, they just started to "believe" that blacks would turn on Obama because of the same-sex marriage issue. Or that they wouldn't be enthusiastic in turn-out because of disenchantment over the economy. Opps.

They could have seen the same thing in their approval numbers among hispanics. But, from that same thin air, they began to "believe" that they could hold up pretend-Cuban-"refugee" Rubio and offset several years of Republican hispanic-bashing over immigration.

They overplayed the degree to which the public at large cares about tax reduction. They took the numbers showing a large number of people saying they disapproved of Obamacare, but ignored the details where larger numbers approved the specifics. They thought if they said "we'll repeal Obamacare" that nobody would stop and say, "oh wait - does that mean you'll repeal extended coverage and protection against pre-ex limitations, too?"

They mis-read every bit of data that was readily available to them, and just kept on carping about the "liberal media" and polls lying to help Obama.

Probably for a presidential campaign it was the. worst. campaign. everrr.

He was a bad candidate, fershure, and had a bunch of baggage running against a reasonably popular incumbent. Ass-whooping though he took, his campaign strategy and operation wasn't as fundamentally flawed as Romney's.

As I think about it, however, Goldwater's was pretty bad. For the same reason as Romney. He envisioned this huge number of conservatives who had never bothered to vote because they didn't have any conservative to vote for. Opps.

Barbour reprimanded an aide who had made a racist remark by saying that if the aide “persisted in racist remarks, he would be reincarnated as a watermelon and placed at the mercy of blacks.”

“I just don’t remember it as being that bad,” Barbour said in 2010, of the civil rights revolution. “I remember Martin Luther King came to town, in ’62. He spoke out at the old fairground and it was full of people, black and white.”
