Where Is The Outrage And MSM Coverage?
http://www.ny1.com/content/top_stories/ ... ll-meeting
I remember Obama showing up and saying "not to worry". He declared that the red tape would be eliminated. Well, we are weeks into the recovery and the "folks" don't seem too pleased. There is great need for a good FEMA response as most of the losses were considered "flood" and only 20% had Flood Insurance.
Where is the MSM to ask these questions like they were there for Katrina? Selective reporting (I choose not to use journalism for a reason) is so obvious to protect the guilty.

When I commented on this a few weeks ago a few Obama swallow ers laughed and ridiculed as is expected. My nephew said weeks ago things were. Falling apart and they were left hanging. Must be BUSH'S fault. LolSupsalemgr wrote:http://www.ny1.com/content/top_stories/ ... ll-meeting

Flashback:
There's just no pleasing the Republicans.Bush's FEMA Director During Katrina Criticizes Obama For Responding To Sandy Too Quickly (Link)
Yesterday, ahead of the storm's pummeling of the eastern seaboard, Brown gave an interview to the local alternative paper, the Denver Westword, on how he believed the Obama administration was responding to Sandy too quickly and that Obama had spoken to the press about Sandy's potential effect too early.

Most of the barrier Is. in NJ still have no electricity. Some areas are just getting gas turned back on now. The only time anything up there seems to move fast is when there is a need for a photo op then they tell the ravaged folk to get the hell out of the way. Literally told to go pound it.

Hate to break it to you, Dolt-tective, but FEMA doesn't stand for Federal Electrical Menders Association. Restoring electrical power is the provenance of the local governments.Colonel Taylor wrote: Does that include the one in Louisiana during Katrina?

Cluebus: The barrier islands were under saltwater for hours. FEMA can't magically undo that.
In most any civilized area in the US, that means that you have to replace the breaker box and all the wiring in the house. That means that you have to find an electrician licensed in that area. Then you have to get a city or county inspector to okay it. Then the electrical company can turn the power on.
There simply aren't enough licensed electricians and inspectors to go around. Electricians are working 18-hour days and barely putting a dent in it. That has nothing to do with FEMA.
Please quote where someone was literally told to go pound it.

Re: Where Is The Outrage And MSM Coverage?
I don't know about the outrage, that's not the job of a news organization, but the MSM
coverage was there at about 6:35 or so on ABC World News. They even had the guy with
the grey sweatshirt on. If you know how a lot of New Yorkers are you wouldn't be too
surprised. Loud bitching and moaning is practically a part-time job.

Not mentioned above: Ontario. However:New York State Electric and Gas Corp. says almost all of its customers now have power thanks to crews that came from as far away as Texas, Minnesota and Canada to help out.
[...]
It says 3,400 crew members and others under contract are working 17-hour shifts. They come from British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Missouri, North Carolina, Texas and Minnesota.
United Press International:
So.... With power line crews from all over the US and Canada restoring power in the area, what else do you want Obama to do to restore power?A Canadian electric utility dispatched 80 more workers Tuesday to New York to help restore power to the hurricane-battered region.
[...]
The Hydro One utility, owned by the province of Ontario, initially sent 145 line maintainers, foresters and support staff to New York and announced Tuesday another 80 workers were headed to New York.
[...]
Most recently, 200 Hydro One workers traveled to Washington, Maryland and Virginia July 1 after a massive storm hit the region.
Call in the National Guard? Does the National Guard even have power line crews?
Call in the Army? The Army Corps of Engineers no doubt has some hydro crews, but how many are in North America at the moment? And can you imagine the inevitable "martial law" outrage and hysteria from the right?
Introduce a bill ordering power companies to have a shared standing army of power line crews, waiting for storms that happen years apart? Legislation and training for that would have had to happen around the time of Katrina.
What orders do YOU think Obama be giving to get the power back faster? Where to YOU think he should get the needed hydro crews from?

Barrier islands + hurricane = slow recovery.
Where was Thorny when the only highway on the Outer Banks was washed out?
And here's a clue: restoration is done from the inside out. If you're close to a substation, you'll get power sooner. It's only logical that densely populated areas and the associated infrastructure get first dibs, like those commuter trains from NJ into NYC.
I see news updates every day. Having only broadcast TV, that pretty much limits me to "MSM."
Edit after seeing rstrong's post.
I bet Thorny is like my mother-in-law. After one particularly damaging ice storm, all she could do was bitch about the power crews eating at Quincy's. They should be out there working instead of eating on "our dime." She wanted all those huge white pines, just as coastal residents chose to live in fragile areas.

So when things were slugging along during Katrina and things weren't as bad as the lib MSM wanted us to think you never heard of the stories of RAPE and Meham. You know the stories that were MADE UP because things were going better then expected. Anything to make Bush look bad. As compared to the meeting in L.I. that wasn't even covered by the MSM this week. Wonder why?Vrede wrote:Still.Vrede wrote:Yeah, I figured Colonel Taylor would just repeat the assertion without being able to back it up with fact, logic or citation.Vrede wrote:Rather than just parroting ODS talking points and BLAMING the media please detail for us the specific ways in which it is appropriate to compare Sandy and Katrina and the responses to them so we can see if you two are making any sense. You live in your own little fantasy world vred of all things the liberal MSM says must be true.

Remember the Liberal Media stories of sniper fire and people being killed, oh never happened they were relief valves popping as the idiot reporters were taking cover. Or the 1500 deaths in the super dome and the rotten bodies, oh there were what 5 or 6 and 4 by natural causes and a suicide, lets not forget the rapes at every turn that never ever happened. Yup the liberal LSM reported it so the libs ran with it as Gospel.
This was all for no other reason then make Bush look bad and you still believe it today!

The Colonel makes excellent points. My post was all about the double standard. Both events are catastrophes with enormous consequences. FEMA has a track record of "too little, too late" regardless of party in power. I do find it interesting our lib friends are making excuses they would never accept for Katrina.

OK, nevermind who is/was President. There were a lot of things that occurred and were criticized after Katrina/Rita that aren't present in the Sandy aftermath. For one thing, there was Rita - that made the Katrina effects worse. But there was also the issue of poor evacuation, poor rescue, and really awful emergency facilities in the stadium and elsewhere. There were people basically rounded up and hauled away to Oklahoma or wherever. It was a sloppy mess, poorly handled by a lot. Staten Island is not suffering from lack of attention, but the impossibility of getting things repaired quickly. The Ninth Ward still doesn't get much attention.

No. No one here knows what the hell you're babbling about. If you have any proof of anything that was made up, please post it.
Your little world you choose not to believe facts that are reported has nothing to do with reality, so we don't know what you're babbling about.

What meeting in Long Island?

Wrong. There were cases of sniper fire reported by the National Guard. There was one case where suspected sniper fire turned out to be a gas relief valve popping. There were no reports of people being killed by sniper fire.
Or the 1500 deaths in the super dome and the rotten bodies, oh there were what 5 or 6 and 4 by natural causes and a suicide,
Where did you hear that? There were over 1,500 dead in New Orleans, but no one ever claimed that many at the Superdome.
lets not forget the rapes at every turn that never ever happened. Yup the liberal LSM reported it so the libs ran with it as Gospel.
Fox News reported it and gleefully ran with it as gospel. Your point?
This was all for no other reason then make Bush look bad and you still believe it today!
Fox News ran with those stories -- more than any other network -- to make Bush look bad?

And your point was totally off base. FEMA wasn't too little, too late. There was simply too much to do. You can't magically undo a disaster of that magnitude.
The lack of electricity has nothing to do with FEMA's response. FEMA has no utility crews.

Vrede wrote:No, Colonel Taylor did not make a single point in response to my question asking for a comparison between Sandy and Katrina and the responses to them. You fail comprehension, again. An actual answer would have included things like: size of area affected, numbers of people affected, numbers of deaths, types of damage, proximity to winter, numbers of homes without power, rapidity and scale of federal response, appropriateness of federal response, sheltering facilities for those made homeless, and so on. Don't get me wrong, there may be good comparisons, but you two haven't made a single one.Supsalemgr wrote:The Colonel makes excellent points. My post was all about the double standard. Instead, Colonel Taylor just keeps whining that there is different coverage of wholly different events. Well duh! Then, he goes on to imagine that the invented stories about "RAPE and Meham", sniper fire, and "1500 deaths in the super dome" (I don't even remember that one, there were 1800+ deaths overall) were all some grand conspiracy to make Shrub "look bad". In fact, they were more about making blacks look bad.
Wow Vred and Stinger in two post in two days bring Race into a post where it's not even mentioned or merited, just like two little racist in a pod.
Shrub and Brownie were rightly criticized for the things they could have done and had control over, and the electric power restoration which you two are equating with Katrina relief was not one of them.
The notion that the NY area media, which will trash anyone anytime for any reason, ever has or ever will meet in some smoky backroom to downplay a disaster or the response to it is as wingnutty as it gets. Your fantasy that differing coverage of different hurricanes in different regions with different responses is sufficient proof that there is bias is as illogical as it gets.
So, for the 4th time, please detail for us the specific ways in which it is appropriate to compare Sandy and Katrina and the responses to them so we can see if you two are making any sense.
