Personally I have no need to see other peoples' IP addresses. The downside of that ability is that it can be used to harrass people. Some wingnut's claims get debunked too many times, and they complain to the debunker's IPS to get him kicked offline.
Which is why the ability is usually limited to trusted users.

On the other hand, the ability can be abused. Often some wingnut will be debunked too many times, and they'll send claims of harrassment to the debunkers' ISPs in an attempt to take them off-line. Which is why the ability is often turned on only for trusted users.
It would be hardly surprising that a few of the more adult members of the group have certain features turned on. If you behave yourself, I'm sure that eventually you'll sit at the adults' table too.
