Massacre in Connecticut
Words fail me.
Why? 18 dead innocent children and 10 adults executed.
ETA: maybe not ten adults. 8 including the killer.

Truly a horrific event; from what I read, the second shooter is still at large. What could possibly enable a person to do this?

Plain old lack of empathy.

Last I saw, they took a second guy into custody.
Details are still vague. I feel like a voyeur and I'm somewhat disgusted with the media, but damned if I could drag myself away from the TV.

Now, The New York Times is reporting:
The gunman, who was believed to be in his 20s, walked into a classroom where his mother was a teacher. He shot and killed her and then shot 18 students in the classroom. He also shot seven other adults, and then killed himself inside the school.

Latest I have read is that Ryan Lanza, 24, killed his mother who was a kindergarten teacher at the school, as well as all the others. His brother was found in the woods, but his involvement is uncertain. The father was found dead at their home in Hoboken, N.J. and Lanza's girlfriend is missing.
Horrible tragedy all around.

Obviously a troubled young man. It is way too early to draw any conclusions as to why?

Re: Massacre in Connecticut
It's too late to take back the guns. They're here to stay.
Still, for the Second Amendment zealots, when that was written, it took time to load a gun to get off a shot.
Now we have a very sick person who blows away a classroom of kindergarten children, most likely, in the time it took our forefathers to load.
I always wonder what sends one person over the edge, while others hang on, even in quiet desperation.

In a country of over 300 million, you're going to have some real nuts out there.
Unfortunately, we are getting used to this kind of thing. I was going to watch
Judge Judy, watched the news update for a few minutes and clicked back to
Bonanza.

I'm all about gun rights, but your examples are stupid. All those items have a primary use. A gun's primary and only use is to kill.Partisan62 wrote:Then let's concentrate on the nuts, not the inanimate object involved...or get busy restricting cars, baseball bats, bathtubs, rocks, knives, rope, plastic bags, all garden tools, electricity, fertilizer, exposure to lightening, carbon monoxide, high places, heavy objects, strong people, gasoline and sharp sticks, et al.Bungalow Bill wrote:In a country of over 300 million, you're going to have some real nuts out there.

I like guns too
but the 2nd is outdated and has long been compromised by even the most fervent of the supporters
so, as we are already in the grey area of comprise, what harm is there in getting rid of the assault type weapons?

Yep, I'd like to see somebody kill 27 people with rocks, ropes, plastic bags, and sharp sticks.

It's unbelievable what this thread turned into; bashing each other over guns, rights, attitudes, etc. when beautiful, innocent little children had their lives snuffed out by an uncaring, probably undisciplined, nut case.
Rest in peace little children, you won't have to grow up in an increasingly heartless, hate-filled society.

Re: Massacre in Connecticut
Partisan62, you are a miserable, despicable, inhuman piece of shit. Little five year olds were gunned down like cornered rats, and you use the tragedy to show your racist, hateful ass. Not that I would expect any different from a cold-hearted bigot who thought it was OK for SC to execute a 14 year-old.
Can you let it go for once? Little kids, coloring or singing or listening to a story are executed by a a deranged man. Be a man for once and show some compassion.
I don't buy the God angle, Piper, but thank you for being a man with a heart. Maybe if more people looked beyond themselves and figured out we're all in this together, we could make some headway.
My heart aches tonight. It aches for the dead and the bereaved. Too bad we don't have the close-up coverage for all the innocents we kill in our godamned wars.

Many years passed in my life before I accepted a God angle and it wasn't through Christianity, but via a strong determination and perserverance from a people who have seen much death and destruction in their history.k9nanny wrote: Little kids, coloring or singing or listening to a story are executed by a a deranged man.

My heart aches too. Not only for those innocent children and adults who would have never dreamed they'll not go home tonight; but I ache also for what this world is coming to; a heartless, uncaring, community who's only interest is in oneself.
I have tears in my eyes as I write this. There was a time not long ago that I thought that I had cried all I could ever cry.
I guess I'll just have to brace myself; I'm not dead yet.
