Merrick made a persuasive case as to why a special prosecutor is appropriate, but he did not discuss why it's taken so long (even allowing for the 2-3 month pre-election pause). We lefties have made the case for charges for nearly 2 years.

I have said that trump probably can't be convicted due to at least one maga juror willing to lie to get on the jury and then ignoring the evidence to claim trump's innocence, but not to explain merrick's maga-love or cowardness or whatever prevented him from doing his job for over a year. It wasn't until the 1/6 committee became vocal about him doing absolutely nothing that he began to show some effort culminating in his passing it off to someone else.
