Will they continue to do so? My guess is that probably not, at least long term. The disadvantage of not being being a zealot.
The two rational patriots are:
Majority Whip Tom Emmer of Minnesota
Austin Scott of Georgia
It's sad that this how low our bar is for potentially acceptable Repugs and only 2 of 9 can clear it.
Emmer is an "anything but", he's an election denier that voted to certify the results. Not sure if that's rational or not or by whose standards for that matter but it might be enough to garner enough no votes.
Don't know anything about Scott.

Yeah, I should have put "rational patriots" in quotes and I trash both of them above. My point is that so few even achieve this extremely minimal standard.

Yeah, it ain't gonna be Emmer, the hounds have been released.
... House Republicans are holding a candidate forum Monday evening to hear from those seeking the role, though it is not clear if any of the GOP lawmakers will be able to gather the support necessary from their conference to secure the 217 votes needed from the full House to serve in the top spot.
After giving his speech at the forum, Rep. Dan Meuser, a member of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, dropped out of the speaker’s race, per members in the room.... (solid MAGAt and election denier)
Here are the Republican lawmakers vying for the speakership (details on each not posted by me):
Rep. Tom Emmer (MN)
Rep. Kevin Hern (OK)
Rep. Jack Bergman (MI)
Rep. Austin Scott (GA)
Rep. Byron Donalds (FL)
Rep. Mike Johnson (LA)
Rep. Pete Sessions (TX)
Rep. Gary Palmer (AL)

Pillow Guy is a joke, but I think the rest may prefer chaos. To what end? Civil War? Fascist coup?
Emmer has withdrawn. MSNBC compared it to a circular firing squad.
Kevin Hern (OK) and Mike Johnson (LA), election deniers, are now the leading candidates. O Really MIGHT be correct that the loons will wear the sane but cowardly RepuQs down. No one seems willing to work with Dems in the obvious interest of the nation.

If you wrote it as fiction no one would buy it.

I'm not sure that it will fly as nonfiction history.
Speaker pro tem McHenry is still in the mix, but he's unwilling. He was not an election denier. This has become the prime litmus test for the extremists. Cultists

It's still a longshot but I'm starting to think Speaker Jefferies may be a possibility, probably after about a month or so with no funding.
You couldn't write that either, making it more of a possibility.
