The Global Warming thread.

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

This September, millions of us will walk out of our workplaces and homes to join young climate strikers on the streets and demand an end to the age of fossil fuels.

Our house is on fire — let’s act like it. We demand climate justice for everyone.

Given the current abysmal state of the GOP it's difficult for anyone to be "Dumbest", but some Repug always manages to rise to the top of the stinkin' heap.
GOP Senator John Cornyn Torched Over ‘Dumbest’ Climate Change Explainer
One scientist blasted Cornyn for being “utterly, despicably, proudly ignorant” of the threat to the planet.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) appeared to display a highly questionable understanding of climate change on Twitter, and promptly got dragged over the coals....
Senator John Cornyn

It’s summer, Chuck
Chuck Schumer
‏Verified account @SenSchumer

July 2019 was the hottest month ever, of any month, on record.

Climate change is the greatest threat facing our planet.

It’s about our kids. It’s about our health. It’s about the future.

We must act. https://www.noaa.gov/news/july-2019-was ... for-planet
...
Your grandkids will grow up in a decimated planet & they’ll know YOU were a direct cause of it. To protect the wealthy fossil fuel barons who donate to you.

I doubt they’ll ever forgive you.
It's not just "summer," it's the hottest summer ever, and it's just getting worse, like @SenSchumer said.

If that's too complicated for you, then how about this: your grandchildren won't be able to grow the crops that your parents did, it'll be too hot in Texas for them.
Jay Inslee
@JayInslee

It's the climate crisis, John.
Trumpy Trumpy (parody) @outofcontroljb

John Cornyn must have studied science at Trump University.
This may be one of the most ignorant tweets I've seen from an elected official.
Peter Gleick

In which a sitting US senator is not ashamed to reveal in a three-word tweet how utterly, despicably, proudly ignorant he is of the greatest environmental threat to face the planet. @JohnCornyn
#climatechange
We need to start having a basic science literacy entrance exam for the US Senate.
You call yourself a leader and you can't tell the difference between climate and weather. Are you that ignorant. Actually I think you're not. It's worse. You are willing to sacrifice the planet due to your devotion to corporations and Trump. You're a disgrace.
Less tweeting, more reading, John.

Why do you post?

Why companies don’t want Trump’s ‘business-friendly’ methane rollbacks

Andrew R. Wheeler and POSPOTUS are destructive idiots, again.

Global renewable energy has quadrupled over past decade
With solar leading the way, clean energy capacity growth is helping the planet avoid billions of tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

Dreaming of sustainability in a material world
Author and Green Dreamer podcast host Kamea Chayne helps listeners dispel eco-anxiety and resist fast fashion by making environmentally conscious choices.

... One billion new items of clothing are produced every year, and every second, a garbage truck’s worth of textiles are put in landfills or burned. If things don’t change soon, fashion could drain a quarter of the world’s carbon budget by 2050....

The fashion industry emits more greenhouse gases than ocean shipping and international airline flights combined. Those emissions stem mostly from big inputs like water usage for growing cotton and garment washing, and petroleum inputs for synthetic fibers.

“The amount of water needed to grow enough cotton for a single T-shirt is 2,700 liters, which is about three years’ worth of drinking water for one person,” Chayne says....
My lifetime of thrift store shopping other than for the rare specialty item, usually for backpacking = nearly zero carbon footprint.

2 questions.

1. Why did the glaciers in Glacier National Bay begin to shrink in the 1750's?
2. Why do you think warmer temperatures are bad?

Record high temperature here in TN yesterday (94) and prediction is record high today and tomorrow. I have found that cold beer helps alleviate the effects.

Sorry, missed seeing your post until now.

1. There is no “Glacier National Bay”. Right off the bat we know that you and the LOL LOL LOL AGW denier LOL LOL LOL site you get cherry picked “facts” from are clueless, not even up to the level of a middle school geography student.

In Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve one glacier out of its 7 major ones, the Grand Pacific Glacier, retreated beginning in the 18th Century. It’s only been in the last few decades that all of the Park’s glaciers have been thinning and retreating. You lied.

Glaciology is complex, with many factors affecting each one. All you do is confirm your utter science ignorance by implying that a single contrary glacier is meaningful, especially when we know that glaciers globally are more recently and consistently retreating.
“While there are isolated cases of growing glaciers, the overwhelming trend in glaciers worldwide is retreat. In fact, the global melt rate has been accelerating since the mid-1970s.”
https://skepticalscience.com/himalayan- ... ediate.htm

2. “The consequences of climate change become increasingly bad after each additional degree of warming, with the consequences of 2°C being quite damaging and the consequences of 4°C being potentially catastrophic.”
https://skepticalscience.com/global-war ... vanced.htm
It’s also a matter of the unprecedented rapidity of warming. Neither humans nor plants and animals have time to adapt.

We are not the cretins you are used to discussing things with. If you wish to avoid shaming yourself, you’re really going to have to up your game, including: basic googling, avoiding biased, non-expert websites, and doing some actual research. We may be lefties, but each one of us prizes facts and logic above all. You should give it a try sometime.

Tropical Storm Imelda Dumps More Than 40 Inches of Rain in Texas, Triggering Catastrophic Flooding (RECAP)

If some supernatural entity - god, Gaia, FSM, whatever - wished to convey to humanity the reality and seriousness of AGW, TX and LA over the past few years is the perfect spot to do it. Other places like the Middle East produce more oil, but our consumption is off the charts. Then, right at the time of the Global Climate Strike with Greta Thunberg rocking the UN and Congress is also perfect.

Hmmm.

Skiping school in the name of climate change is.
What excuse did you use for "skiping" spelling class?
And what cause would you find worthy of skipping class?
