No doubt just about anything beats cleaning up puke. And you are correct in that the taxpayers actually paid for mowing the yard, but the cop was gonna be paid either way, whether he was riding or sitting in a cop car or mowing grass, the labor rate is the same. Actually, two cops were being paid for this if you count the one who took the photo. I used to mow yards in my neighborhood when I was a kid; I got $1.25 for a standard yard and maybe $1.75 for a bigger one. But at that time a new push mower could be bought for about $35 and gas was about 32 cents per gallon. Hey, Larry. Hey, mow.
If all the two cops would have otherwise been doing is riding around in a cop car rather than finding something useful to do for the town or dept, then we agree it was a somewhat selfless act by the one cop, maybe not the other one unless he also did something for the old lady. At $50-60 per hour - 30-40 young neoplacebo equivalents - I hope she ended up with the nicest lawn in town.

I shudder to consider the concept of 30 or 40 equivalents of myself; that would constitute a serious threat, or at least a notable menace.
As a former mower, I judge the lady's yard to be a disaster; I am assuming the plants in the photo are dandelions and if so, they are the biggest I've ever seen. The woman may want to consider a scorched earth policy for next year.

I typed it then had to go away for a couple of hours because I scared myself so badly.

She need to find a cop that does paving.
I'll bet she called in the welfare check herself and was really the one to bring up the state of the yard - devious like that elderly couple I "should have killed". As the Yippies said, "You can't trust anyone over 70," or something like that.
I'm good with a cop treating hungry kids as an immediate priority. Plus, he may have even shopped on his own time and certainly shopped with his own money.
That said, as you imply it's a little suspicious that he took a pic of the cart. Cop PR or just self-promotion?
I've got nothing against euphenisms, but "different limbs" does seem a bit over-mild for a kid with no arms at all, but it's still an inspiring story. Think about how you jump (or would jump if you did) and think about how much arm motion you use. And this kid has no arms.
Probably not a good idea to annoy a 5'10" former Israeli army vet.
6'1". He got away. She might have been better off giving him a good kick and being done with it rather than trying to call the cops while detaining him.

That would have been better, and a more fun video, too. But it's incredible that nobody would even call the cops for her, much less actually try to help kick him or hold him down. Seems if you were walking along there even if you didn't know what had happened, a couple of people fighting on the ground might be reason to 911.
